Our client, a prestigious private golf club, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the meticulous maintenance and development of their championship-level golf course in St. Louis, Missouri . This senior role demands exceptional horticultural knowledge, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining world-class playing conditions. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of turfgrass management, irrigation, pest control, agronomy, and course detailing. This is a critical position within the club's operations, requiring hands-on involvement and strategic planning to ensure the course remains a premier destination.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive agronomic plan for the golf course, ensuring optimal turfgrass health and playing conditions year-round. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff, fostering a culture of excellence and safety. Manage the budget for golf course operations, including labor, materials, equipment, and capital projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness. Oversee all aspects of irrigation systems, water management, and drainage to ensure efficient and sustainable water usage. Implement and manage integrated pest management (IPM) programs, minimizing the use of chemicals while effectively controlling diseases, insects, and weeds. Maintain and manage the golf course maintenance equipment fleet, ensuring proper operation, repair, and replacement schedules. Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional and Club Management on course improvements, renovations, and special projects. Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and club policies. Monitor course conditions daily, making necessary adjustments to mowing, hand-watering, and Bunker maintenance. Foster positive relationships with club members and staff, representing the highest standards of professionalism. Requirements Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent, preferably at a high-end golf facility. Valid Pesticide Applicator's License. Strong knowledge of turfgrass physiology, soil science, pest and disease management, and irrigation technology. Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Excellent budget management and financial planning abilities. Proficiency in G.P.S. mapping and modern turfgrass management software. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
