About the Role
Our client, a premier golf and hospitality destination, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Golf Course Superintendent to manage the impeccable conditioning and presentation of their renowned courses in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US . This executive-level position requires extensive expertise in turfgrass management, agronomy, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and team leadership. The successful candidate will be dedicated to upholding the highest standards of course maintenance, ensuring an exceptional playing experience for all golfers.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance, including turfgrass health, mowing, watering, fertilization, and pest/disease management. Develop and implement an annual agronomic plan, setting clear objectives for course conditioning and sustainability. Manage and lead a team of groundskeepers, assistant superintendents, and mechanics, providing training, motivation, and performance evaluations. Supervise and maintain all golf course maintenance equipment, ensuring proper operation, repair, and replacement schedules. Manage the irrigation system, including scheduling, water conservation strategies, and timely repairs. Monitor course conditions daily and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal playability and aesthetics. Control and manage budgets for course maintenance operations, including labor, materials, and equipment. Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and implement sustainable maintenance practices. Work closely with the Director of Golf and Head Golf Professional to ensure alignment with overall club objectives. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, chemical applications, and budget expenditures. Contribute to course renovation and improvement projects as needed. Foster a safe working environment for all course maintenance staff.
Qualifications:
Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. Class B or A certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is highly desirable. Extensive knowledge of cool-season turfgrass management practices. Proficiency in irrigation system management and water conservation techniques. Strong understanding of pest, disease, and weed control strategies, including integrated pest management (IPM). Proven leadership and team management skills. Excellent budgeting, planning, and record-keeping abilities. Knowledge of golf course maintenance equipment and technology. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
