About the Role
Our client, a premier golf and country club, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Golf Course Superintendent to manage the meticulous maintenance and development of their championship-level course in Madison, Wisconsin, US . This hands-on role requires a deep understanding of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and sustainable agronomic practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating pristine playing conditions. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of groundskeepers, managing the course maintenance budget, implementing strategic agronomic plans, and ensuring the highest standards of course presentation throughout the year. This position is critical to maintaining the club's reputation for excellence and providing an exceptional golfing experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute comprehensive course maintenance plans and budgets. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff. Manage all aspects of turfgrass health, including mowing, fertilization, and pest/disease control. Oversee the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage. Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies. Monitor weather conditions and adjust maintenance practices accordingly. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable practices. Operate and maintain a variety of turf maintenance equipment. Collaborate with club management and golf professionals on course conditioning and projects. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, expenses, and inventory.
Qualifications:
Degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. GCSAA certification or actively pursuing is highly desirable. Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil science, and agronomy. Proficiency in irrigation system management and water conservation techniques. Experience with pest and disease identification and control. Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills. Ability to develop and manage budgets effectively. Proficiency in operating and maintaining golf course maintenance equipment.
