About the Role
Our client, a prestigious golf club renowned for its immaculate grounds, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Golf Course Superintendent to manage and maintain its championship-level course in Madison, Wisconsin, US . This pivotal role requires extensive horticultural knowledge, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for delivering an exceptional playing surface. The Superintendent will be responsible for all aspects of course conditioning, including turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest control, and team supervision, ensuring the course consistently meets the highest standards.
Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans for turfgrass management, including fertilization, pest and disease control, and irrigation strategies. Oversee the daily operations of the golf course maintenance staff, including scheduling, training, performance management, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Manage and maintain all irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and optimal turf health. Monitor course conditions daily, making timely adjustments to mowing, rolling, and other maintenance practices to ensure consistent playability and aesthetic appeal. Implement and manage integrated pest management (IPM) programs to control diseases, insects, and weeds effectively and responsibly. Oversee the maintenance and repair of all golf course maintenance equipment, ensuring proper function and longevity. Manage the course maintenance budget effectively, controlling costs while maintaining high-quality standards. Collaborate with golf professionals and club management to address course-related issues and support tournament operations. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, chemical applications, and budget expenditures. Uphold environmental stewardship principles and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Qualifications: Degree or certification in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field is highly preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent at a reputable golf facility. In-depth knowledge of turfgrass physiology, soil science, pest/disease identification, and control methods. Proven experience in managing irrigation systems and drainage. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse crew. Proficiency in budgeting and financial management. Knowledge of golf course maintenance equipment and their maintenance. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Valid Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one. A passion for golf and a commitment to excellence in course conditioning.
