About the Role
Join a premier golf resort in **Sacramento, California, US**, as a Senior Golf Course Superintendent. This role is responsible for the meticulous management and maintenance of our championship-level golf courses, ensuring they meet the highest standards of playability and aesthetic appeal. The successful candidate will be a leader in agronomy, turfgrass management, and team supervision, dedicated to preserving and enhancing the golfing experience for our esteemed members and guests. This position requires a deep understanding of sustainable practices and advanced horticultural techniques.
Responsibilities: Oversee all daily operations of golf course maintenance, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and bunker maintenance. Develop and implement comprehensive short-term and long-term agronomic plans for all course areas, including greens, fairways, rough, and practice facilities. Manage the golf course maintenance budget, including labor, equipment, and material expenses, ensuring cost-effectiveness. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and equipment operators, promoting a safe and efficient work environment. Manage the irrigation system, optimizing water usage for turf health and conservation. Implement and oversee integrated pest management (IPM) programs to minimize chemical applications. Maintain and repair all maintenance equipment, ensuring operational readiness and longevity. Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and implement sustainable maintenance practices. Collaborate with golf professionals and club management to meet the specific needs of the golf course and the membership. Stay current with the latest advancements in turfgrass science, agronomy, and equipment technology. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including applications, budgets, and staff performance. Plan and execute course renovation or improvement projects as needed. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is required. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 3 years in a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent role. GCSAA Class A certification is highly desirable. Proven expertise in turfgrass physiology, soil science, pest/disease identification and management, and irrigation systems. Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Excellent understanding of budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation. Proficiency in using various maintenance equipment and technology. Knowledge of environmental stewardship and sustainable golf course management practices. Effective communication and problem-solving abilities. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary licenses for pesticide application. Passion for golf and commitment to delivering exceptional playing conditions.
