About the Role Our client, a prestigious golf club situated in the scenic surroundings of Sacramento, California , is actively seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Golf Course Superintendent to lead its agronomy team. This critical role involves the meticulous management and maintenance of the golf course, ensuring it meets the highest standards of playability, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability. This position requires a deep understanding of local climate conditions and seasonal challenges unique to the Sacramento region. Key Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, pest and disease control, and bunker management. Develop and implement annual and long-term agronomic plans, ensuring optimal course conditions throughout the playing season. Manage and maintain the course's irrigation system, including water conservation strategies and efficient water usage. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff, fostering a safe and productive work environment. Manage the golf course maintenance budget, controlling expenditures and seeking cost-effective solutions. Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and implement sustainable turfgrass management practices. Operate and maintain a fleet of golf course maintenance equipment, including scheduling repairs and replacements. Collaborate with the golf professional staff and club management to meet the needs of the membership and tournament play. Monitor weather patterns and adjust maintenance schedules accordingly to protect course conditions. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including chemical applications, soil testing, and weather data. Requirements Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent, with a strong emphasis on course conditioning. GCSAA Class A certification or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe. Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil science, pest and disease management, and irrigation technologies. Proven experience in budget management, staff leadership, and project planning. Strong understanding of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices in golf course management. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions quickly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with irrigation control systems and agronomic software. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to maintain course quality.
