About the Role
Our client, a premier golf club renowned for its immaculate grounds and exceptional player experience, located in Detroit, Michigan , is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Golf Course Superintendent. This role is responsible for the daily management and meticulous upkeep of the entire golf course, ensuring playing conditions are consistently at the highest standard. You will oversee all aspects of agronomy, including turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, bunker maintenance, and course renovation projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of turf science, horticulture, and sustainable maintenance practices. You will lead and mentor a dedicated team of groundskeepers, coordinating daily tasks, providing training, and fostering a culture of excellence and safety. Responsibilities include managing the course maintenance budget effectively, procuring necessary equipment and supplies, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This position requires a hands-on approach, excellent leadership abilities, and strong organizational skills. A commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in course conditioning is essential. You will work closely with golf professionals and club management to meet the expectations of members and guests. A Bachelor's degree in Golf Course Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field is preferred, along with a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. Responsibilities:
Oversee daily golf course operations and maintenance activities. Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans for turfgrass management. Manage irrigation systems, including scheduling, repairs, and water conservation efforts. Implement integrated pest and disease management programs. Supervise, train, and mentor groundskeeping staff. Manage course maintenance budget and control expenses. Ensure timely and efficient preparation of greens, fairways, tees, and bunkers. Plan and execute course renovation and construction projects. Maintain the health and appearance of landscape and horticultural elements. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental standards. Operate and maintain golf course maintenance equipment. Collaborate with club management and golf professionals to enhance the player experience. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Golf Course Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field preferred. Minimum 8 years of experience in golf course maintenance. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in course management. Proficiency in turfgrass science, irrigation, pest control, and fertilization. Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills. Experience with budgeting and financial management. Knowledge of golf course operations and agronomic best practices. GCSAA certification or eligibility is highly desirable. Valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy machinery.
