Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Club in Kiawah Island, South Carolina is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Golf Course Superintendent in maintaining exceptional playing conditions and operational standards at Tom Fazio’s River Course at Kiawah Island Club. This position assists with daily golf course maintenance operations, team leadership, agronomic programs, irrigation management, and tournament preparation while contributing to a positive and professional work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Assist in the daily maintenance and conditioning of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, native areas, and clubhouse grounds.
• Supervise and lead crew members in daily assignments, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to club standards.
• Assist with planning and execution of agronomic programs including fertilization, pesticide applications, aerification, moisture management, and cultural practices.
• Monitor turf conditions and identify disease, insect, irrigation, drainage, and environmental concerns.
• Support irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems and components.
• Assist in course setup and preparation for tournaments, member events, and daily play.
• Train employees on proper equipment operation, safety procedures, and maintenance standards.
• Maintain accurate records related to chemical applications, irrigation, weather, and labor activities.
• Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in weekend and holiday management rotations as required.
Requirements
• Degree, certificate, or formal education in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2–5 years of golf course maintenance experience, preferably at a private club, resort, or championship-caliber facility.
• Knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management practices and agronomic principles.
• Ability to obtain or maintain a South Carolina pesticide applicator license.
• Experience with irrigation systems, moisture management practices, and daily golf course setup.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively lead and motivate team members in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with golf course maintenance equipment and operational procedures.
Compensation
$65,000 – $75,000 per year.
