About the Role
This role runs the day to day care of an 18 hole golf course and all related grounds. The superintendent is responsible for course conditions, staff leadership, planning, and budget control. This is a hands-on role with real authority and accountability.
The job includes managing turf health for greens, tees, fairways, rough, and practice areas. You will plan and execute mowing, fertilization, irrigation, drainage, pest control, and seasonal programs suited to southeast Michigan weather. You will oversee all equipment use, maintenance schedules, and chemical applications in compliance with state and federal rules.
Staff management is a core part of the role. You will hire, train, schedule, and supervise a grounds crew. You will set daily priorities, enforce safety standards, and build a team that takes pride in course conditions. You will work closely with ownership and the golf professional to align course setup with play levels, tournaments, and revenue goals.
The position requires strong planning skills. You will prepare and manage the annual agronomy budget, track expenses, and make cost conscious decisions without sacrificing playing quality. You will also contribute to long range improvement plans such as drainage upgrades, bunker renovations, irrigation improvements, and tree management.
Qualified candidates should have several years of golf course maintenance experience, with at least some time in a supervisory role. A degree or certificate in turfgrass management is preferred but not required if experience is strong. A Michigan pesticide applicator license, or the ability to obtain one quickly, is required. You must be comfortable with early mornings, weekends, and peak season demands.
This is a full time, year round leadership position with competitive pay based on experience.
