About the Role
Our client, a prestigious recreational facility located in Washington, D.C., US , is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the maintenance and agronomic management of their world-class golf course. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the course is in optimal playing condition year-round, meeting the highest standards of playability and aesthetics. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and staff supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans, including fertilization, pest and disease management, irrigation, and cultural practices. Manage all aspects of daily course maintenance operations, ensuring efficient and effective execution of tasks. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff, fostering a productive and safe work environment. Oversee the operation and maintenance of all grounds maintenance equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety. Manage the course budget effectively, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation. Work closely with golf professionals and club management to ensure the course meets the needs of members and tournament play. Implement sustainable practices for water conservation, pesticide use, and overall environmental stewardship. Stay current with the latest advancements in turfgrass science, agronomy, and golf course management techniques. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including chemical applications, irrigation, and weather data. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 3 years in a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent role. GCSAA Class A certification or eligibility for certification is highly preferred. Proven expertise in turfgrass physiology, soil science, irrigation systems, and integrated pest management (IPM). Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills. Experience in budget management and financial planning. Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of grounds maintenance equipment. Knowledge of golf course design and drainage principles. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. A commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable golf course management.
