POSITION DESCRIPTION
Wakonda Club is seeking an experienced and motivated Golf Course Equipment Manager to join our Agronomy Team. The Equipment Manager is responsible for the maintenance, repair, adjustment, and organization of the golf course equipment fleet. This includes, but is not limited to, reel and rotary mowers, maintenance vehicles, tractors, utility equipment, and specialty turf equipment.
The ideal candidate will have previous golf course equipment experience and a strong understanding of turf maintenance equipment. However, we are willing to train and develop the right candidate who demonstrates strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn the specialized requirements of golf course equipment.
Wakonda Club maintains a modern equipment fleet consisting primarily of leased equipment on a rolling replacement schedule. This provides the Equipment Manager with the opportunity to work with current-generation turf equipment while focusing on preventative maintenance, proper setup, equipment performance, and minimizing downtime.
Wakonda Club is also the annual host of the Principal Charity Classic on the PGA TOUR Champions, providing an exciting and demanding tournament environment. The Equipment Manager plays an important role in ensuring the Agronomy Team has reliable, properly maintained equipment to prepare and maintain the golf course at the highest level.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Proactively maintain the golf course equipment fleet to maximize reliability and minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, adjustments, and repairs on golf course equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and small-engine systems.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment repairs, repair costs, preventative maintenance, and service history.
- Maintain an organized inventory of commonly used parts, including filters, belts, hoses, bearings, fasteners, and other supplies.
- Prioritize equipment maintenance and repair work based on daily golf course operations and agronomic needs.
- Set up and adjust reel and rotary mowers to the Golf Course Superintendent’s specifications.
- Work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to anticipate equipment needs and schedule repairs around golf course operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized equipment shop and work environment.
- Assist with equipment preparation and maintenance associated with the Principal Charity Classic and other major golf events.
- Communicate equipment issues, repair timelines, and operational concerns effectively with the Agronomy Team.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Previous golf course equipment or turf equipment experience is a significant asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized golf course equipment systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems, including:
- Gasoline engines
- Diesel engines
- Small engines
- Hydraulic systems
- Electric-over-hydraulic systems
- Electrical systems
- Ability to operate and maintain reel and rotary mowing equipment.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate equipment service and repair records.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as an important member of the Agronomy Team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to kneel, bend, stretch, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Golf course experience is preferred; however, Wakonda Club is willing to train the right candidate with a strong mechanical background and a willingness to learn.
