Golf Course Equipment Manager Job Title: Equipment Manager Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent/Director of Agronomy Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt Benefits Health insurance paid time off golf privileges professional development opportunities uniforms other Position Summary The Golf Course Equipment Manageris responsible forthe maintenance, repair, servicing, and overall management of the golf course's entire fleet of turf maintenance and operational equipment. This critical role ensures all machineryoperatessafely, efficiently, and reliably to support outstanding playing conditions and daily course operations. The Equipment Managermaintainsa comprehensive preventive maintenance program, manages parts inventory, ensures shop organization and safety, and collaborates closely with the agronomy team to minimize downtime and control costs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop, implement, and manage a thorough preventive maintenance program for all golf course equipment, including but not limited to: Reel and rotary mowers (walking, riding, fairway, rough, greens) Tractors, sprayers,topdressers, aerators, bunker rakes Utility vehicles, golf carts, chain saws, blowers, and small engine equipment Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues; perform major and minor repairs on gasoline, diesel, and 2-cycle powered equipment Conduct daily/weekly safety inspections and pre-use checks; ensure all equipment meets safety standards before being released for use on the course Perform equipment calibration (mowers, sprayers, etc.) to achieve precise cutting heights, application rates, and performance standardsrequiredfor premium turf conditions Perform daily/regular inspections of course conditions/cut quality andmake adjustmentsas needed/directed by Golf Course Superintendent/Director of Agronomy Maintainaccuraterecords of all maintenance, repairs, parts usage, labor hours, and service histories;utilizecomputerized maintenance management systems when available Order parts and supplies; manage inventory levels, source cost-effective replacements, andmaintainorganized parts storage Keep the equipment shop, wash areas, fuel station, and storage facilities clean, organized, and safeat all times Train and supervise golf course maintenance staff on proper equipment operation, basic care, cleaning, and minor troubleshooting Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with equipment budgeting, purchase recommendations, trade-in evaluations, and long-term fleet planning Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns to minimize impact on daily operations Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.) related to equipment use, fuel storage, hazardous materials, and shop practices Operateequipment on the course when needed to verify repairs or during peak periodsas directed by Golf Course Superintendent Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in small engine repair, diesel mechanics, hydraulics, or related field strongly preferred 3+ years of experience in golf course or turf equipment maintenance and repair (preferred); comparable experience in landscaping, agriculture, or heavy equipment maintenance considered Strong working knowledge of reel mower grinding/sharpening, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, welding/fabrication, and small engine repair Familiarity with major golf/turf equipment brands (e.g., Toro, John Deere, Jacobsen, Bernhard, Grinders) is highly desirable Valid driver's license; CDL or pesticide applicator license a plus Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and parts diagrams Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, maintenance software, email) Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail Excellent problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude Ability to lift 50+lbs, work in varying weather conditions, and stand/walk for extended periods Preferred Certifications GCSAA Equipment Management Certificate (or willingness to obtain) Manufacturer-specific training/certifications (Toro, John Deere, etc.) Welding, hydraulic, or electrical certification Personal Attributes Team player witha positive attitude,strongworkethicandgoodcommunicationskills High priority on safety for self, staff, and golfers Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision Passion for the game of golf and pride in contributing to exceptional course conditions
