About the Role
Golf Course Grounds & Maintenance – Opportunity to Grow into Superintendent
Stagecoach Golf Course | Lena, Illinois
$18–$25/hour | Seasonal or Potential Year-Round | Career Growth Opportunity
Want to learn how to RUN a golf course — not just mow one?
Stagecoach Golf Course is looking for a dependable, hands-on person who wants to learn the business from the ground up and potentially grow into a Golf Course Superintendent role.
Golf course experience is NOT required. We're more interested in finding the right person — someone dependable, mechanically inclined, willing to learn and capable of taking on more responsibility as their experience grows.
Our preference is to bring someone aboard yet this 2026 season so they can learn the property, equipment and systems alongside our experienced crew and be ready to take on a larger role for the 2027 golf season and beyond.
What You'll Learn & Do
Maintain greens, fairways, tees, rough and surrounding grounds
Learn turf health, disease identification and treatment
Learn and operate the golf course irrigation system
Learn fertilizer and chemical application programs
Obtain the appropriate turf applicator/spraying license
Operate and maintain golf course equipment
Help diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and irrigation problems
Perform preventative and general property maintenance
Help prepare the course and grounds for leagues, outings and special events
As experience grows, become involved with planning, purchasing, budgeting and oversight of golf course operations
Mechanical or Maintenance Experience? Even Better.
Experience with general maintenance, landscaping, farming, mechanics, engines, electrical, hydraulics, irrigation or equipment repair would be a definite plus — but it isn't required.
If you're willing to learn, we're willing to train.
We're looking for someone who enjoys figuring things out, working with their hands and learning how equipment and systems work.
Who We're Really Looking For... Skills can be taught. Finding the right person is most important.
We want someone who is:
Dependable and trustworthy
Mechanically inclined or willing to learn
A problem solver
Comfortable working independently
Detail-oriented and proud of how the property looks
Comfortable working outdoors and starting early when needed
Friendly and professional around golfers and customers
Willing to work hard, learn and take on increasing responsibility
Seasonal — or Potentially Year-Round
This position can certainly be seasonal, but there is potential to develop it into a year-round role for the right person.
The year-round opportunity would depend on the individual's skills, interests and ability to contribute in other maintenance and operational areas during the golf off-season. We'd discuss that opportunity individually with the candidate rather than defining it before we meet the right person.
Why This Job Is Different
We're not simply looking for someone to mow grass. We're looking for someone we can teach, trust and potentially grow into running the golf course.
Stagecoach is a family-owned and operated golf course approaching its 100th year. This is an opportunity to learn directly from an experienced crew who knows the property and its systems while gradually taking on greater responsibility.
For the right person, that creates a genuine path toward Golf Course Superintendent and responsibility for overall golf course operations.
Compensation & Schedule
Pay Range: $18.00–$25.00/hour
Starting compensation will depend on experience, mechanical and maintenance abilities, golf/turf knowledge and, most importantly, finding the right person we believe can grow with the operation.
Hours: Approx 30–40 hours/week during the golf season (negotiable to fit your needs)
Schedule: Monday–Friday with early mornings and weekends as needed
Employment: Seasonal with potential for year-round employment
