About the Role
Our client, a premier golf and country club located in the vibrant **Fort Worth, Texas, US**, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Head Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the maintenance and development of their world-class 18-hole championship course. This is a critical leadership position responsible for ensuring the highest standards of turf quality, course playability, and aesthetic appeal year-round. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of turfgrass management, agronomy, irrigation systems, and team leadership, combined with a passion for creating an exceptional golfing experience. Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive agronomic plan for the golf course, including fertilization, pest and disease control, irrigation, and mowing programs. Supervise, train, and motivate a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff, ensuring efficient work practices and adherence to safety protocols. Oversee the daily operation of the maintenance department, including equipment management, budget adherence, and resource allocation. Manage and maintain all irrigation systems, ensuring optimal water usage and coverage across the course. Monitor turfgrass conditions closely, identifying and addressing any issues promptly to maintain superior playing surfaces. Collaborate with the Golf Course Architect and General Manager on course improvement projects, renovations, and enhancements. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including chemical applications, fertilizer use, and budget expenditures. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to pesticide and fertilizer application. Foster a positive and professional working environment within the maintenance team, promoting teamwork and skill development. Interact professionally with club members and guests, addressing any concerns or feedback regarding course conditions. Manage course conditioning to prepare for tournaments and special events. Qualifications:
Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or a related field from an accredited institution. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in golf course management, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role. GCSAA Class A certification is highly preferred. Extensive knowledge of warm-season and cool-season turfgrass species, soil science, pest and disease identification, and integrated pest management (IPM) principles. Proficiency in managing sophisticated irrigation systems (e.g., Toro, Rain Bird) and pump stations. Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff. Strong understanding of golf course budgeting and financial management. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license and the ability to operate heavy machinery and maintenance equipment safely. Commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable golf course management practices.
