Position Title: Assistant Golf Course Mechanic (Entry Level)
Department: Golf Course Maintenance
Reports To: Equipment Manager / Director of Agronomy
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Position Summary
The Assistant Golf Course Mechanic supports the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient daily operations. This entry-level position assists with routine service, preventive maintenance, and shop organization while gaining hands-on experience working with a wide variety of turf maintenance equipment.
This role provides an opportunity to develop mechanical skills in a professional golf course maintenance environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with routine maintenance of golf course equipment including greens mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, utility vehicles, and small engines
Perform oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and other preventive maintenance tasks
Assist with sharpening and setup of reels and bedknives
Support troubleshooting and minor equipment repairs under supervision
Maintain service records and maintenance logs as directed
Wash and detail equipment as needed
Inspect equipment prior to daily use to identify service needs
Assist with parts inventory organization and shop cleanliness
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance facility
Follow all shop safety procedures and equipment handling standards
Support special projects as assigned by the Equipment Manager or Director of Agronomy
Qualifications
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Basic familiarity with hand tools and shop equipment preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to follow instructions and work independently when needed
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Valid driver’s license required
Prior experience with landscaping equipment, small engines, or automotive service is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to safely operate tools and maintenance equipment
Work Environment
This position works primarily in the equipment maintenance facility with regular exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, dust, fuels, lubricants, and moving equipment. Work schedules may include early mornings, occasional weekends, and holidays depending on operational needs.
