Job Title: Golf Course Maintenance Assistant Mechanic
Department: Golf Course Maintenance
Reports To: Equipment Manager / Head Mechanic
FLSA Status: Full-Time / Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Golf Course Maintenance Assistant Mechanic supports the daily maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all golf course equipment. This role ensures that mowing units, utility vehicles, and small engine equipment are operating safely and efficiently to maintain high-quality playing conditions. The Assistant Mechanic works closely with the Equipment Manager and maintenance team to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in the inspection, diagnosis, adjustment, and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment including:
Greens mowers, fairway mowers, and rough mowers
Utility vehicles and carts
Small engine equipment (blowers, trimmers, chainsaws)
Perform preventative maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and blade sharpening.
Set up and adjust cutting units to meet course standards.
Clean, service, and organize maintenance shop and work areas.
Maintain accurate service records and parts inventory logs.
Assist in ordering parts and supplies as directed.
Ensure all equipment meets safety and operational standards.
Follow environmental and safety regulations related to fuel, oil, and chemical handling.
Support emergency repairs during tournaments or high-traffic periods.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in small engine repair preferred.
1–2 years of mechanical experience (golf course or landscaping equipment preferred).
Working knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Ability to read service manuals and schematics.
Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and inventory.
Valid driver’s license required.

Working Conditions
Work performed primarily in a maintenance shop and outdoors.

Early mornings, weekends, and occasional holidays required, especially during peak season.
