About the Role

Position Summary The Food and Beverage Intern gains broad, hands-on experience across Bishops Bay Country Club's food and beverage operation. Through structured rotations, the intern learns club service standards, teamwork, member hospitality, point-of-sale procedures, food safety, and the day-to-day rhythm of multiple outlets. The intern supports club operations wherever needed while building practical front-of-house and back-of-house experience. This internship is designed for someone who wants exposure to several areas of food and beverage before selecting a longer-term hospitality focus. Season & Availability Must commit to working from the third week of May through Labor Day Monday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on club operating needs. Schedule varies by assigned rotation and business levels. Rotational Areas Pool Server Pool Cook Banquet Server Formal Dining Server Assistant Formal Dining Server Turnhouse Attendant Internship Structure Phase 1 - Club Orientation: Introduction to club culture, service expectations, member hospitality, food safety and sanitation, point-of-sale procedures, uniform standards, communication, teamwork, and the club leadership structure. Phase 2 - Outlet Rotations: Shadow shifts, supervised hands-on training, and independent shifts after readiness is demonstrated. Each rotation includes opening and closing procedures, outlet setup, service standards, menu knowledge, member communication, cash handling, sanitation, side work, and cross-department teamwork. Phase 3 - Independent Operational Support: After completing required training, the intern is scheduled independently in trained positions based on operational needs. Rotations may continue throughout the internship to reinforce skills and build a complete understanding of club operations. Phase 4 - Three Management Weeks: Three designated weeks provide exposure to the Clubhouse Manager, Event Manager, Dining Room Manager, and Food and Beverage Manager. The intern shadows and supports daily service planning, staff deployment, member events, service recovery, opening and closing procedures, and post-shift review. Management-Week Exposure Preparing for daily service and reviewing anticipated business levels Observing or assisting with pre-shift meetings Supporting staff deployment and assignment of side work Monitoring service flow and member satisfaction Communicating between culinary and service teams Supporting weddings, banquets, and member events Addressing service concerns with management guidance Reviewing opening and closing procedures Learning basic scheduling, labor, and inventory responsibilities Participating in post-shift or post-event discussions Learning Objectives Perform successfully in multiple food and beverage positions Explain how the club's outlets work together Demonstrate professional and consistent member service Follow food safety and sanitation procedures Use the club's point-of-sale system accurately Adapt to different service styles and levels of formality Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and members Recognize how staffing and business volume affect daily operations Describe the basic responsibilities of a club Floor Supervisor Understand how Food and Beverage leaders prepare for and oversee service Identify areas of interest for future hospitality employment Qualifications Interest in hospitality, food and beverage, club operations, or customer service Positive, service-oriented attitude and willingness to learn multiple positions Strong communication, teamwork, reliability, and attention to detail Ability to adapt to changing business levels, service environments, and assignments Previous restaurant, club, catering, or customer-service experience is helpful but not required Ability to perform the essential duties of assigned rotations, with or without reasonable accommodation Evaluation & Development Feedback following each operational rotation and management week Mid-program and final performance reviews Completed training and competency checklist Final career-development conversation with Food and Beverage leadership
