Golf Shop Assistant
Job Description
Position Concept:
This position will assist the Professional Staff in the day-to-day operations of the Golf Shop including merchandising of soft and hard goods, tournament operations, data entry including member billing, handicaps, tee time system and event scoring, supervision of outside staff, assist with outside operations when needed and provide exceptional service and advice to our members and guests.
Specific Duties:
• Nightly closing duties: Charges entered, closing reports printed, outside staff supervision, sweep shop, dust, garbage out, shop secured for closing, doors locked, downstairs bag room and cart barn locked, driving range closed, oversee outside staff pull bags for AM, call newspaper results.
• Opening duties: In addition to opening the shop and preparing computers for the taking of tee times, assist outside staff with bringing up golf bags and carts, setting up the driving range and posting the daily event format sheets.
• Oversee special orders including placing orders, checking in merchandise, enter orders in order book, calling members when products arrive in shop, follow-up with vendors and members when orders backordered, make sure orders are charged upon arrival.
• Oversee demo club usage. Periodically review and reconcile the “demo club out report”. Retrieve clubs out of member’s bags after round, maintain an inventory list of demo clubs, and ensure demo clubs are marked with demo labels.
• Other shop duties: keep office supplies stocked and re-order, when necessary, maintain a neat and orderly work and counter space, keep counter area, storage room orderly and clean of un-necessary debris, assist golf professional with daily recording of cart and green fee sales and rounds of golf including daily sales reports, when available, check nightly Jonas sales numbers versus ForeTees reports for cart and green fee rounds,
• Make phone calls when necessary, such as tournament information, special orders, etc.
• Assist with outside duties, for example: bag drop, moving carts, ranger course, cleaning of clubs, driving range etc.
• Assist members and guests with their purchase of merchandise, fielding questions and concerns, writing up charges, etc.
• Work with the ForeTees system in the booking of tee times, registering members for events.
• In addition to daily billing of green fees and carts, bill members for tournament fees when applicable and the accurate writing up of shop sales.
• When applicable assist with golf clinics, junior golf instructor etc.
• Over-see and complete club repair duties such as golf club regrip, lie and loft adjustments and shipping of outsourced repair work.
• Promote and provide advice for the sale of hard and soft goods including the billing of member and guest purchases and the accurate taking and follow-up of special orders.
• This individual will work and over-see Monday golf to include checking in of members and employees, rental and cleaning of golf carts, member billing, monitor pace of play, enforcement of club policies and procedures that govern on course play and supervision of outside staff personnel.
• Tournament Operations: Assist in the daily scoring of events, Golf Genius and GHIN data entry such as tournament scores, checking handicaps, recording of results, and entering sweeps winnings in the Point-of-Sale System. During special events, this individual will be expected to run on-course games such as par 3 contests and shootouts or any other duties and tasks as specified by the Golf Professional or Assistant.
• When called upon, this individual will act in the capacity of starter and ranger. In this capacity, the individual will be expected to enforce club rules i.e., slow play, manage on course play, tee off, and record names of members and guests for event sign-up.
• This individual will be expected to close the golf shop three to four days per week, which includes but is not limited to the duties outlined above.
