Assistant Food And Beverage Manager – Watchung Valley Golf Club
Watchung Valley Golf Club is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Food And Beverage Manager to lead and elevate our member dining and special event experiences. Nestled in the rolling hills of New Jersey, Watchung Valley has been family-owned since the 1940s and features a Seth Raynor-designed championship golf course, along with a recently added six-hole short course. Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate special events, from club functions to private celebrations.
Work closely with the Food and Beverage Manager, Executive Chef, and service team to maintain high service and food quality standards.
Recruit, train, and develop front-of-house staff to ensure a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
Foster a positive, team-oriented work culture while maintaining a strong presence on the floor.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in food & beverage management at a private club, high-end resort or hotel, or upscale restaurant.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
Experience in restaurant, event planning and banquet operations is a plus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Member & Guest Service
Provide exceptional service and hospitality to members, guests, and event hosts.
Ensure a positive dining and event experience by maintaining high service standards.
Address and resolve member and guest concerns promptly and professionally.
Support food and beverage operations in all dining outlets, bars, banquet facilities, and club events.
Assist with reservations, seating arrangements, and special member requests.
Event Planning & Execution
Assist in planning, organizing, and executing member events, club functions, tournaments, and private events.
Meet with members, hosts, and event clients to coordinate event details and service expectations.
Prepare and review event orders, room layouts, floor plans, timelines, and staffing requirements.
Coordinate and review event logistics with the Executive Chef, culinary team, golf professional team and service staff.
Oversee event setup, service execution, and breakdown to ensure event success.
Conduct pre-event staff meetings to communicate service expectations.
Follow up on events to ensure quality standards are met and opportunities for improvement are identified.
Staff Leadership & Development
Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and evaluating food and beverage employees.
Lead daily line-up meetings and communicate club standards, service goals, and operational updates.
Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and development opportunities.
Promote a positive work environment through teamwork, accountability, and employee recognition.
Ensure staff are properly groomed, in uniform, and adhering to club standards.
Operations Management
Assist in the daily management of dining room, banquet, bar, and event operations.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards throughout all food and beverage areas.
Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are completed.
Monitor service flow and coordinate communication between front-of-house and kitchen teams.
Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned.
Enforce club policies, procedures, and service standards.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
Assist with labor management and scheduling.
Monitor inventories of food and beverage supplies, service ware, linens, and equipment.
Ensure accurate billing and member charge procedures.
Support revenue control measures and cost management initiatives.
Assist in preparing reports and operational summaries as requested.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with all club policies and procedures.
Enforce responsible alcohol service in accordance with state and local regulations.
Maintain a safe environment for members, guests, and employees.
Follow and enforce all safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in departmental and management meetings as requested.
Support special projects and club initiatives as assigned.
Perform other duties as directed by the Food & Beverage Manager or Club Management.
Licenses and Special Requirements
Food safety certification
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach.
Push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
Continuous repetitive motions.
Work in hot, humid and noisy environment.
Weekend and Holidays availability.
Occasional 10+ hour shift
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
