Founded in 1908, Pelham Country Club is one of Westchester County's premier private clubs, offering exceptional golf, racquets, swimming, dining and social experiences in a warm, family-oriented environment.
The Club's racquets facilities include 11 Har-Tru tennis courts, including four covered courts for winter play, four platform tennis courts and two pickleball courts. Supported by an active and engaged membership, Pelham offers one of the region's most active year-round racquets programs, featuring lessons, clinics, camps, leagues, tournaments and social events for players of every age and ability.
Position Summary
The Director of Racquets provides the vision, leadership and operational oversight for Pelham Country Club's entire racquets program, including tennis, platform tennis and pickleball. The Director leads a talented team of racquets professionals while overseeing all instructional programming, competitive teams, member events, championships and daily operations.
This is a leadership-first position. While maintaining a selective teaching schedule and visible on-court presence, the Director's primary focus is building an exceptional member experience, developing staff, creating outstanding programming and ensuring every aspect of the racquets operation runs at the highest level.
Key Responsibilities
Programming, Events & Team Management
Oversee all lessons, clinics, camps, leagues, tournaments, championships and social events across tennis, platform tennis and pickleball.
Provide leadership and oversight for all competitive teams, ensuring they are organized, administered and managed professionally, fairly and inclusively.
Continually evaluate programming and introduce new ideas that increase participation, strengthen the racquets community and enhance the overall member experience.
Teaching Excellence & Player Development
Establish a culture of teaching excellence throughout the department.
Maintain a selective teaching schedule while mentoring staff to ensure consistently high-quality instruction.
Support the development of junior and adult players of all ages and skill levels through thoughtful coaching and programming.
Operations & Administration
Oversee scheduling, staffing, budgeting and the day-to-day operation of the racquets department, including management of the tennis pro shop, merchandising, inventory and retail operations.
Ensure clear, timely and professional communication with members before, during and after all programs and events.
Partner with Club leadership and other departments to continually improve the member experience and advance the Club's strategic objectives.
Team Leadership & Professional Development
Lead, mentor and develop the Club's team of tennis, platform tennis and pickleball professionals.
Recruit, retain and inspire outstanding teaching professionals while fostering a collaborative, service-oriented culture.
Establish consistently high standards for instruction, professionalism, accountability and member service.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
Demonstrated success leading a private club racquets program.
Proven experience developing innovative programming, managing competitive teams and creating exceptional member experiences.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational and administrative skills.
Recognized teaching certifications and a competitive playing background.
A passion for mentoring racquets professionals and building an inclusive, vibrant racquets community.
A commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Compensation
Base Salary: $125,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience. The position also offers significant additional earning potential through lessons, clinics, camps, management of the tennis pro shop, special events and incentive compensation, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
