This position is responsible for shaping and executing the Golf Shop’s overall retail experience, including purchasing strategy, merchandise presentation, vendor relationships, inventory controls, special orders, tournament merchandise, corporate orders, and member service. The role will report to the Head Golf Professional and collaborate closely with the golf professional team to support seasonal member events, tournament merchandise, daily shop service, and the overall member experience.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Head Golf Shop Merchandiser & Buyer at Brook Hollow Golf Club will lead the daily and seasonal execution of the Golf Shop retail program. This position is responsible for golf merchandise, buying plans, inventory management, vendor partnerships, visual merchandising, member retail service, and retail training within the Golf Department.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Buying & Vendor Strategy
Develop and execute seasonal and annual buying plans for golf apparel, lifestyle apparel, accessories, shoes, gifts, tournament merchandise, and club-branded items.
Collaborate and review plans alongside the Head Golf Professional to establish forecasted retail goals, purchasing strategy, vendor priorities, open-to-buy discipline, and product flow throughout the year.
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships while communicating regularly regarding product availability, deliveries, credits, returns, future buys, and promotional opportunities.
Use retail data, member feedback, historical sales, sell-through, margin, inventory turns, and category performance to guide future purchasing decisions.
Stay current with luxury golf, lifestyle, and private-club retail trends while balancing Brook Hollow’s traditions, brand standards, and member preferences.
Inventory & Financial Discipline
Manage inventory accuracy, receiving, tagging, transfers, back stock, storage areas, special orders, member charges, and follow-through on product arrival.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of inventory on order, on display, and in storage to reduce shrink, prevent missed sales, and improve turnover.
Direct quarterly inventory audits and counts to support healthy inventory practices and financial accountability.
Review vendor invoices and statements to ensure timely payment, accurate receiving, and avoidance of account holds or billing discrepancies.
Maintain organized retail storage spaces and ensure new merchandise is received, tagged, displayed, or stored in a timely and accurate manner.
Visual Merchandising & Member Experience
Maintain a first-class member shopping environment built around personal service, strong product knowledge, thoughtful presentation, and a culture of “personal shoppers” for members and guests.
Design, maintain, and rotate unique, visually attractive merchandise displays that reflect Brook Hollow’s brand, seasonality, major events, and member preferences.
Support and maintain the Club’s logo and brand integrity as designated by Club guidelines for merchandise and retail presentation.
Be present on the shop floor during key member traffic periods, club events, holidays, and retail activations.
Stay engaged with all demographics of members to support their buying needs and feedback.
Events, Corporate Orders & Marketing
Oversee tournament and event merchandise programs, including member-guest merchandise, ladies’ events, men’s events, junior programming, holiday gifting, and club-branded opportunities.
Manage corporate gifting and large member order opportunities, including vendor sourcing, order tracking, delivery timelines, personalization, and billing accuracy.
Support digital communication and marketing of featured products, seasonal arrivals, tournament merchandise, holiday gifts, corporate offerings, and special shop events.
Assist in developing retail promotions, private shopping opportunities, vendor activations, trunk shows, and member-focused retail experiences.
Contribute to Brook Hollow’s continued pursuit of retail excellence, including AGM Platinum Award submissions, visual merchandising standards, and measurable performance improvement.
Team Training & Golf Operation Support
Train golf shop staff and golf professionals on product knowledge, member selling techniques, fit, fabric, brand stories, special orders, and retail service expectations.
Work collaboratively with the golf professional team to support the day-to-day shop services, tee sheet, member events, tournament execution, and the overall member experience.
Provide leadership in maintaining consistent retail standards across the Golf Shop, storage areas, displays, and member-facing service points.
Communicate clearly with golf professionals, outside service staff, accounting, vendors, and club leadership to ensure accurate follow-through and operational efficiency.
Maintain schedule flexibility where possible based on business needs, seasonal demand, key member events, and peak retail periods.

The Head Golf Shop Merchandiser & Buyer will be expected to maintain and support the Club’s branding and logo guidelines while bringing fresh ideas and creativity to the merchandise offering. Brook Hollow is looking for a leader who can balance premium brands, classic club style, modern lifestyle trends, strong financial discipline, and the practical realities of serving a high-volume private-club golf shop.

This position will also play an important role in Brook Hollow’s continued pursuit of retail excellence, including future AGM Platinum Award submissions, golf shop accolades, visual merchandising standards, local and national networking, member marketing, and measurable performance improvement.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Head Golf Shop Merchandiser & Buyer will report to the Head Golf Professional, Tim King, and oversee the golf retail concession and store inventory management.
Tim has been a PGA Professional for more than 16 years and is in his fifth year as Head Golf Professional at Brook Hollow. He previously served for five years as Head Professional at The Los Angeles Country Club.
Tim’s management style invests in each employee by creating development through ownership, collaborative teamwork, and an enjoyable, healthy work environment. Success in this position will be measured by the quality of the member experience, product presentation, sales performance, inventory management, and the ability to keep the shop fresh, clean, relevant, and aligned with Brook Hollow’s standards.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred 5+ years of golf retail, private club merchandising, luxury retail, or comparable high-touch retail experience. Exceptional candidates with 3+ years and strong buying/inventory experience will be considered.
Private golf clubs or golf shop retail experience strongly preferred.
Experience and understanding of luxury golf and lifestyle brands that are trending nationally and locally.
Demonstrated experience building buying plans, budgeting, working with vendors, managing product flow, and maintaining inventory accuracy.
Strong understanding of visual merchandising, retail presentation, member service, and luxury product positioning.
Strong financial acumen driving annual sales and managing inventory expense levels
Comfortable using point-of-sale systems, Microsoft Excel, email communication, order tracking, and retail reporting tools.
AGM membership, AGM education, retail certifications, or fashion/merchandising education preferred but not required.
PGA/LPGA Professional background welcomed but not required.
Love for the game of golf and skilled in the service industry

Addresses challenges with a proactive, calm, and solution-oriented mindset.
Maintains flexible availability to meet operational and hospitality needs, including holidays, busy seasons, buying trips, vendor meetings, and the physical ability to lift, push, pull, load, or carry merchandise and boxes of 40 lbs. or more.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Annual salary will be commensurate with experience: $80,000-$95,000
Additional earning opportunities and support may include:
Performance bonus tied to retail annual goals, membership satisfaction, and overall professional contribution to the operation

Approximate target range of total compensation: $85,000-$110,000+
