Position
Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Position Summary
Manage the day‑to‑day operations of an 18‑hole golf course, including turf maintenance, chemical application, irrigation systems, crew supervision, budgeting, and compliance with safety regulations. Oversee a team of 5–8 full‑time staff and 10–20 part‑time student employees, ensuring high standards of course playability, environmental stewardship, and facility upkeep.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in bentgrass greens management
Crew supervision and aerification
Operational knowledge of golf course equipment and chemical application
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Turfgrass Management
Delegation and task completion
Up‑to‑date processes for golf course maintenance
Effective working relationships
Knowledge of UGA Golf Course Best Management Practices Guidelines
Proficient with irrigation software
Physical Demands

Duties & Responsibilities
Training: On‑boarding, training, and continuing education of new and existing employees.
Employee Time Management: Schedule work within budgetary limits, maintain accurate tracking, and enforce schedules.
Daily Scheduling and Supervision of Work: Assign tasks, maintain daily logs, hire/finalize new staff, and conduct performance evaluations.
Timekeeping System Management: Monitor and approve timecards, ensure timely approvals, and enforce proper breaks.
Supervise Field Irrigation Maintenance: Perform irrigation technician duties, diagnose problems, and maintain pumps.
Care of Maintenance Facilities: Maintain cleanliness, safety gear, spill containment, and compliance with environmental regulations.
Care of Chemical Buildings: Ensure proper labeling, storage, safety gear availability, and monthly check sheets.
Integrated Pest Management: Scout for pests on 150 acres, plan and execute control measures considering budget and regulations.
Pesticide Application & Chemical Management: Apply chemicals per regulations, maintain equipment, record applications, manage inventory, and respond to spills.
Facility Management: Check cleanliness and functionality of bathrooms, rain shelters, and maintenance office; coordinate repairs.
Underground Storage Tank (Fuel) Management: Maintain state certifications, inspections, training, and safety signage.
Equipment Coordination: Schedule and communicate maintenance needs with mechanics; ensure timely equipment updates.
Golf Course Improvement Projects: Develop project proposals, document costs and timelines, and maintain digital records.
Irrigation Software and Pump Maintenance: Operate irrigation software, schedule pump maintenance, comply with water restrictions, and log usage.
Drive vehicles as required to perform job duties.
Maintain security access for chemicals and equipment.
