The course traces its origins to Herbert Strong and was subsequently shaped by A.W. Tillinghast. The recent extensive restoration by Ron Forse recaptured the character and strategic qualities of the Strong/Tillinghast design.</p><p>The Head Golf Professional position has an extraordinary history. Just six individuals have combined to serve as Head Professional for virtually all of the Club’s 104 years, including World Golf Hall of Fame members Paul “Little Poison” Runyan, Jack Burke Jr. and “Lighthorse” Harry Cooper, followed in the modern era by legendary Met Section professional Gene Borek and, since 2007, Craig Thomas, accomplished tournament player and the 2026 Met PGA Professional of the Year.
