Overview
Golf Club Overview The Foundry Golf Club is an 18-hole, member-owned, private golf-only club located approximately 25 miles southwest of Richmond, Virginia. Consistently ranked among the top courses in the state, The Foundry features a demanding 6,900+ yard layout highlighted by strategic tee shots and some of the fastest, most challenging greens in Virginia. The club supports approximately 325 members and hosts 16,500 annual rounds. Amenities include a driving range, putting green, locker rooms, and dining facilities housed within a 200+ year-old historic clubhouse, as well as an Indoor Golf Studio equipped with TrackMan technology. The Foundry is currently working with renowned architect Andrew Green on a long-term Master Plan to enhance both the golf course and club facilities. Planned improvements include a new short game area, an indoor practice facility at the range, and a new eight-person lodge, all scheduled to open in 2027.
Position Summary
The Assistant Golf Professional will assist the Head Golf Professional in all facets of golf operations while delivering an exceptional, high-touch experience to the membership. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for a motivated PGA Associate or Member to gain experience across all areas of a premier private club operation.
Experience Required
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with members, guests, and staff at all levels
Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced private club environment
Strong organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency with golf management software (tee sheet systems, GHIN, POS systems)
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a golf operations role at a private club or comparable facility with PGA Level 3 education or PGA Class A
Professional appearance, demeanor, and conduct consistent with the standards of a premier private golf club
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Operations
Serve as the primary point of contact for members and guests in the absence of the Head Golf Professional, delivering exceptional and personalized service at all times
Maintain a high level of visibility and accessibility throughout the golf shop and on the course
Oversee tee time management and communicate course conditions, pace‑of‑play expectations, and scheduling information to members and guests
Perform daily golf shop opening and closing procedures, including balancing petty cash and managing the caddie bank
Manage daily administrative functions including player check‑in, fee collection, starting operations, and pace‑of‑play oversight
Communicate regularly with the Head Golf Professional regarding operational priorities, member feedback, and staffing needs
Maintain a clean, organized golf shop, office, and stockroom in accordance with club standards
Tournament Operations
Assist in overseeing all aspects of tournament and event operations from planning through execution
Support the Head Golf Professional with scheduling, promoting, and executing club tournaments and member competitions
Manage tournament tee sheets and maintain accurate groupings and scoring records
Assist in developing and distributing a monthly golf events calendar, and collaborate with the Head Golf Professional to coordinate fitting events and enhance member participation
Partner with the Head Golf Professional to promote events, support logo merchandise initiatives, and align golf services with key programs
Communicate tournament information, critical dates, and course closures clearly and in a timely manner
Coordinate registration for all main course tournaments and member events
Maintain and monitor the club's GHIN handicap system
Collaborative Responsibilities
Work closely with the Head Golf Professional on golf shop inventory control, merchandising standards, member fitting events, and apparel promotions
Assist with receiving, tagging, and displaying new merchandise
Coordinate with the Outside Operations to ensure cart fleet readiness, range operations, and outside staff alignment with daily tee sheets and event schedules
Support cross‑departmental initiatives and communication as directed by the Head Golf Professional
