About the role

ABOUT US

The Valley Club is a private, member-owned, four-season mountain club in Sun Valley, Idaho. Our 27-hole championship course was designed by Hale Irwin and Tom Fazio, and member Davis Love III and Beau Welling Design renovated it in 2017. Our members expect excellent playing conditions every day, and our maintenance team takes pride in delivering them.

Members also enjoy tennis, pickleball, padel, fitness, pools and dining. Off the course, Sun Valley offers world-class skiing, fly fishing, hiking and mountain biking.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for an experienced turf equipment technician to lead our maintenance shop. You'll be responsible for a $3 million fleet, mostly Toro, that keeps all 27 holes in championship condition. You'll work closely with the Superintendent and crew every day, and your work will show in every cut.

You'll have a clean, bright, well-equipped shop with two vehicle lifts, a full tool setup and a covered equipment barn.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Repair & Maintenance

- Diagnose and repair gas, diesel and electric turf equipment, including greens, tee and fairway mowers, rough units, sprayers, aerifiers, utility vehicles and tractors.

- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, fuel and drive systems.

- Grind reels and bedknives, and set the height and quality of cut to the Superintendent's standards.

- Service small engines, hand tools and irrigation support equipment, and do welding and fabrication as needed.

Planning & Fleet Management

- Run a preventive maintenance program for every unit in the fleet.

- Plan winter overhauls and rebuilds so the fleet is ready by April.

- Inspect equipment daily and pull unsafe units from service.

- Advise on equipment replacement, leasing and purchases.

Parts, Records & Safety

- Order parts and supplies, manage inventory and track repair costs within budget.

- Work with dealers and vendors on service and warranty claims.

- Keep accurate service records, and keep the shop, wash pad and fuel area clean, organized and compliant.

- Follow and enforce OSHA and club safety policies, and train crew members to operate equipment safely.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- 3+ years of experience as a turf equipment technician, ideally at a private club or high-end golf course.

- Hands-on experience with Toro equipment (John Deere a plus).

- Strong reel grinding and diagnostic skills with hydraulic, electrical and diesel systems.

- Welding and fabrication skills preferred.

- Valid driver's license; a pesticide applicator license, or the ability to get one, is a plus.

- Comfortable using a computer for parts ordering and maintenance records.

- Able to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors in mountain weather, and work early mornings, weekends and extra hours during the season.

- A person who takes pride in quality work, keeps an organized shop, plans ahead and communicates well with the team.
