Position Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for spraying and record keeping on the golf course and surrounding grounds. Also, Will be responsible for turf management, irrigation systems, landscaping, staff supervision, budgeting, and ensuring optimal playing conditions while adhering to environmental and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Course Maintenance & Management
• Plan and implement agronomic programs for turf, soil, and pest control to ensure high-quality playing surfaces.
• Oversee the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, roughs, and landscaping
• Monitor and manage irrigation and drainage systems for efficiency and sustainability
• Schedule and supervise mowing, fertilization, aeration, and other cultural practices
• Inspect the golf course regularly to ensure conditions and identify maintenance needs
Staff Supervision & Training
• Manage grounds crew and maintenance staff
• Develop daily work schedules and assign tasks effectively
• Ensure adherence to safety policies and provide ongoing staff education on equipment use and maintenance procedures
Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
• Implement environmentally responsible maintenance practices
• Participate in sustainable initiatives such as integrated pest management and water conservation programs
Qualifications
• Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in golf course maintenance; prior assistant superintendent experience preferred
• Current pesticide license for State of Michigan or ability to obtain one
• Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, turf equipment, and course maintenance practices
• Excellent leadership, communications, and organizational skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Skills
• Experience with modern irrigation and environmental monitoring technology
• Knowledge of local climate and turf species
• Membership in MGCSA
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift 50lbs and perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and operating maintenance equipment
