ASSISTANT SENIOR EQUIPMENT MANAGER – DESERT MOUNTAIN

Desert Mountain is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Senior Equipment Manager to join its Agronomy team and provide technical, operational, and leadership support across seven golf courses and five equipment maintenance shops. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic, technician, or lead mechanic who is ready to take the next step in their career. Working closely with the Senior Equipment Manager, the Assistant Senior Equipment Manager will help oversee daily shop operations, support a team of 13 mechanics, improve consistency across multiple locations, and ensure the equipment fleet is maintained to the highest standards. The position was created to strengthen the leadership structure of a large and complex operation. With responsibility across seven courses and five shops, the Senior Equipment Manager needs additional support to provide consistent leadership, communication, and development throughout the department. The Assistant Equipment Manager will provide a stronger day-to-day presence with the mechanic teams while helping establish consistent standards for safety, organization, equipment quality, accountability, and professional development. CLUB HIGHLIGHTS Total annual rounds: Approximately 170,000 Agronomy equipment team: 13 full-time mechanics, with one additional position currently open Golf courses: Seven Equipment maintenance shops: Five Typical work schedule: Monday–Friday, generally beginning 30 minutes prior to sunrise; approximately 40–50 hours per week, with flexibility based on course needs Turf types: Bentgrass greens; hybrid Bermudagrass on tees, fairways, approaches, and rough Irrigation system: Rain Bird Equipment: Primarily John Deere, Tru-Turf, Turfco, and Toro; majority of equipment is leased Current equipment initiative: New equipment lease packages are being implemented over the next two years Current projects: Shop overhauls, development of a centralized parts inventory, and ongoing capital equipment replacement planning Course renovations: Desert Mountain is completing a multi-year effort to bring warm-season grasses back across all seven courses, including restorations and re-grassing projects at Cochise, Geronimo, Apache, No. Seven, Chiricahua, and Renegade SUCCESS TRAITS OF THE INDIVIDUAL The successful candidate will be: A positive, team-oriented leader who approaches challenges as opportunities for improvement A strong communicator who can build relationships with mechanics, course leadership, vendors, and other Club personnel Solution-oriented and proactive, with the ability to identify problems and take ownership of finding solutions Someone who enjoys developing others and is willing to provide technical guidance, mentoring, and accountability Organized and capable of managing competing priorities across multiple courses and shop locations Committed to continuous learning, professional development, and personal growth Comfortable stepping outside their technical comfort zone to develop their leadership and administrative abilities Professional, dependable, and committed to maintaining high standards Someone who sees this position as an opportunity to grow toward a future Equipment Manager role INITIAL PRIORITIES OF THE POSITION Learn the operation across all seven golf courses and five equipment maintenance shops Build strong working relationships with the mechanic teams and course leadership Support the Senior Equipment Manager with the daily coordination and prioritization of equipment operations Help implement and maintain consistent standards across all five equipment shops Assist with the ongoing overhaul and organization of the maintenance shops Support equipment scheduling, repair prioritization, preventative maintenance, and equipment availability Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, shop efficiency, organization, and communication Assist with parts inventory and procurement initiatives as Desert Mountain works toward a more self-sufficient parts operation Begin developing the leadership, administrative, and organizational skills necessary for future advancement KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND APTITUDE Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to Agronomy Mechanics across multiple shop locations Assist the Senior Equipment Manager with scheduling, assigning, and monitoring repairs based on course and seasonal needs Help ensure consistent shop organization, safety, housekeeping, recordkeeping, and operating standards Provide technical support and mentoring to mechanics to improve diagnostic abilities, workmanship, and overall performance Assist with staff development, training, performance expectations, and accountability Perform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, adjustments, and field support as needed Support repairs involving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, engine, and cutting-unit systems Maintain a strong understanding of cutting-unit maintenance, reel grinding, height-of-cut setup, and frequency-of-clip principles Assist with preventative maintenance planning and ensure equipment records and repair histories are properly maintained Help evaluate equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency Assist with parts procurement, inventory management, distribution, and maintaining appropriate levels of critical parts Work with the Senior Equipment Manager and Parts Manager to identify purchasing needs Help coordinate equipment availability and preparation for seasonal agronomic practices and tournament preparation Support the safe and reliable operation of Agronomy vehicles and equipment Reinforce OSHA, shop safety, fuel handling, hazardous material, battery, oil, and waste-management procedures Respond to equipment issues in the field when repairs or adjustments cannot be completed in the shop Assist with special projects focused on equipment reliability, shop efficiency, safety, and workplace improvements Attend industry seminars, workshops, vendor training, and other professional development opportunities Maintain strong relationships with employees, management, vendors, and Club personnel Continue developing the technical, leadership, administrative, and operational skills necessary to advance within the equipment management profession PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 3–5+ years of progressively responsible experience in golf course equipment maintenance as a mechanic, technician, or lead mechanic High school diploma or equivalent required;
