# East Texas A&M University — Head Men's Golf Coach
## Overview
East Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas is seeking a Head Men's Golf Coach to provide leadership for the Men's Golf program at the NCAA Division I level within the Southland Conference. This is a staff position based in Commerce, Texas. Salary $58,000.00. Proposed Minimum Salary $4,833.34 monthly.
## About the role
You will promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program through coaching, planning, organizing, recruiting and adherence to departmental policies, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Southland Conference, and the NCAA. The coach is expected to lead the program on and off the course, work with student services and academic advisors, and represent the department at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events as requested.
In this role you will:
- Coach student-athletes within the men's golf program at East Texas A&M University and plan and implement a sound pre-season training program in coordination with the strength and conditioning staff.
- Plan all team practices to maximize time, effort, safety and skill, and work with athletic training staff to ensure student-athletes have required physical exams and that athletic training needs are met.
- Counsel student-athletes in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, consulting with student services personnel and university administrators as needed.
- Monitor and encourage academic progress in conjunction with the athletic academic advisor, with the ultimate goal of graduation.
- Advise student-athletes about compliance with University, Southland Conference, and NCAA rules related to financial aid, eligibility, conduct, and appearance, and promote an atmosphere of compliance.
- Monitor compliance activities of assistant coaches and other administrators who report directly or indirectly to the coach and submit documentation as required by the Southland Conference and NCAA.
- Recruit and retain outstanding athletes who can be academically successful, coordinating contacts with recruits and their families and meeting with potential walk-on student-athletes and families.
- Participate in public relations, recruiting, and development efforts; develop a balanced, challenging competition schedule using tactical and statistical data; attend monthly head coaches meetings; and administer the program budget including equipment requests and fundraising activities.
- Assist with coordinating community service and outreach activities for student-athletes and work closely with public and booster groups.
## Experience, education and credentials
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Three (3) years of demonstrated successful experience coaching at the collegiate, university, junior, or professional level.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport of golf.
- Knowledge and experience with NCAA rules and regulations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, and demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student-athletes academically and athletically.
- Proven ability to recruit quality student-athletes.
- Ability to multitask, work cooperatively with others, travel and work nights and weekends.
Licensing/Professional Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
Supervision:
- You may supervise assistant coach, graduate assistant coach, and/or student workers.
