Role Description The Assistant Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based at Ocean Pines Golf Club in Ocean Pines, MD. This position supports the Golf Course Superintendent in the daily management, maintenance, and improvement of the golf course and surrounding grounds. Typical responsibilities include assisting with turf care programs, supervising and training grounds staff, monitoring irrigation systems, and operating and maintaining equipment. The role also involves planning and executing daily course setup, responding to weather and play conditions, and ensuring that all work complies with safety standards and environmental practices. The Assistant Superintendent collaborates with leadership to implement agronomic plans, manage supplies, and contribute to long-term course conditioning and enhancement.
Qualifications
Experience with golf course or turfgrass maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, and pest and disease monitoring.Knowledge of irrigation systems operation, troubleshooting, and basic repair, as well as equipment use and care.Ability to supervise, train, and motivate grounds staff, while coordinating daily work schedules and priorities.Understanding of safe work practices, environmental stewardship, and compliance with applicable regulations.Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to changing weather and course conditions.Effective communication skills and comfort working collaboratively with management, staff, and golfers.Previous experience in golf course management, landscaping, or related field strongly preferred.Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related discipline is beneficial.Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions and to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe is a plus.
