Golf Course Superintendent needed to manage the daily maintenance and operations of a public golf facility with 23 Champion Bermuda putting surfaces. This role ensures the course provides an accessible, high-quality, and enjoyable playing experience for the local community. The ideal candidate will balance excellent turf management with fiscal responsibility, safety, and environmental stewardship in line with city guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Public Facility Maintenance: Oversee the conditioning of greens, fairways, tees, and roughs to withstand heavy municipal traffic and high-volume daily play. Irrigation & Water Management: Operate, maintain, and repair the course irrigation system, keeping a strong focus on water conservation and municipal compliance. Crew Leadership: Direct, schedule, and train a diverse maintenance crew (including seasonal staff), ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and OSHA regulations. Budgeting & Procurement: Assist in developing the annual operating budget; manage expenses, track inventory, and prepare specifications for equipment purchasing according to company processes. Community & Civic Relations: Coordinate closely with the Director of Golf Operations and Head Golf Professionals to accommodate public tournaments, leagues, and community events. Respond professionally to public inquiries or feedback.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related field. Experience: 3–5 years of experience in golf course turf management, with supervisory or assistant superintendent experience preferred. Public sector or municipal experience is a plus. Turf: Champion Bermuda putting surfaces, TifTuf driving range, common Bermuda on course. Licenses: Current or become current with all North Carolina and local chemical/fertilization application licenses and laws/regulations that would impact turf maintenance. Valid Driver's License. Skills: Proficiency in turfgrass science, heavy equipment operation, budget tracking, and basic administrative software. Physical: Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required by weather or tournament schedules; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
