About the Role
Golf Course Superintendent needed to manage the daily maintenance and operations of a semi-private George Cobb design with 19 Tif Eagle Bermuda putting surfaces. This role ensures the course provides an accessible, high-quality, and enjoyable playing experience for the members and guests. The ideal candidate will balance excellent turf management with fiscal responsibility and have access to a wide array of large equipment the owner has to make any necessary changes and upgrades to the course.
Key Responsibilities
- Golf Course Maintenance: Oversee the conditioning of greens, fairways, tees, and roughs to withstand high volume of play.
- Irrigation & Water Management: Operate, maintain, and repair the course irrigation system.
- Crew Leadership: Direct, schedule, and train the maintenance crew
- Budgeting & Procurement: Assist in developing the annual operating budget; manage expenses and track inventory.
- Employee Relations: Coordinate closely with the Director of Golf Operations to accommodate public tournaments, community events and member events
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in golf course turf management, with supervisory or assistant superintendent experience preferred. Owner is looking to constantly upgrade course and facilities with an ultimate goal of going to a private course in the future.
- Turf: Tif Eagle putting surfaces, driving range, Bermuda tees and greens
- Licenses:
- Current or become current with all South Carolina and local chemical/fertilization application licenses and laws/regulations that would impact turf maintenance.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Skills: Proficiency in turfgrass science, heavy equipment operation, budget tracking, and basic administrative software.
- Physical: Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required by weather or tournament schedules; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
