Position Summary Page Belcher Golf Course is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to help lead the daily maintenance and agronomic operations of the golf course. Working under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent will play an important leadership role in maintaining exceptional course conditions, supervising and developing the maintenance team, supporting turf and irrigation programs, and ensuring safe and efficient departmental operations. This position is ideal for a golf course maintenance professional who combines strong technical turf knowledge with hands-on leadership skills and is ready to take on increased responsibility within a golf course operation. Key Responsibilities Golf Course and Turf Management Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with the daily maintenance and overall conditioning of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, landscaping, and other golf course areas. Help implement turf management programs involving mowing, fertilization, irrigation, pest management, plant care, and other agronomic practices. Monitor turf health, soil moisture, course conditions, and environmental factors and make appropriate recommendations or adjustments. Assist with the identification and management of weeds, insects, turf diseases, and other agronomic concerns. Mix and apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other turf-care products as directed and in accordance with applicable regulations and label requirements. Assist with golf course construction, renovation, landscaping, and improvement projects. Team Leadership Schedule, supervise, train, and mentor golf course maintenance staff. Assign daily work and ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to established course standards. Maintain accurate employee work records and assist with evaluating employee performance. Provide ongoing training in equipment operation, maintenance procedures, safety practices, and proper golf course maintenance techniques. Recognize strong performance and address performance concerns promptly, professionally, and constructively. Promote teamwork, open communication, accountability, and a positive work environment. Lead by example through professionalism, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence. Irrigation, Equipment, and Infrastructure Assist with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the golf course irrigation system. Monitor soil moisture and irrigation needs, adjust irrigation schedules as appropriate, and perform spot irrigation when necessary. Assist with repairs involving irrigation lines, valves, sprinkler heads, and related infrastructure, including emergency repairs when necessary. Help oversee the safe operation and proper care of golf course maintenance equipment. Ensure employees are appropriately trained in equipment operation and routine maintenance procedures. Coordinate with the course mechanic regarding equipment condition, maintenance needs, and repairs. Safety, Environmental Compliance, and Recordkeeping Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in implementing and enforcing departmental safety programs in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal requirements. Support the facility's Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) program and reinforce proper safety procedures throughout the department. Ensure fertilizers, pesticides, fuels, petroleum products, and other regulated materials are properly handled, stored, applied, and disposed of. Maintain required pesticide application, chemical-use, maintenance, inventory, and other departmental records. Promote environmentally responsible maintenance practices and the efficient use of water, chemicals, fuel, and other resources. Course Setup and Golf Operations Assist with daily course setup, including hole locations, tee placement, bunker preparation, and other playing-condition requirements. Monitor course conditions throughout the day and respond to issues affecting playability, safety, or appearance. Communicate regularly with the Golf Course Superintendent regarding course conditions, staffing, maintenance priorities, projects, and operational concerns. Work collaboratively with golf operations, club leadership, and other departments to support tournaments, special events, and daily play. Assist in responding to golfer and guest questions or concerns regarding course conditions and communicate significant issues to the Golf Course Superintendent. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Necessary At least 2 years of experience in golf course maintenance, turf management, or a closely related field. Working knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, including turf care, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management. Demonstrated leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise employees and effectively organize daily work assignments. Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree, certificate, or other formal education in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, golf course management, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered. Previous supervisory or team-lead experience within a golf course maintenance operation. Experience operating and maintaining golf course equipment. Experience troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems. Pesticide Applicator License, or the ability to obtain required licensing within an established timeframe after hire. CPR and First Aid certification. Schedule Golf course maintenance requires early-morning work and periodic weekend and holiday coverage. Additional hours may occasionally be required during tournaments, weather events, renovation projects, or periods of heightened agronomic activity. Physical Requirements and Work Environment This position requires regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions and the ability to perform physically demanding golf course maintenance activities. Employees must be able to: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Frequently bend, stoop, climb, pull, and perform other physical tasks. Safely operate golf course machinery and maintenance equipment. Work around moving mechanical equipment, noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, wet conditions, heat, cold, and other conditions typical of a golf course maintenance environment. Safely and effectively perform the essential physical requirements of the position.
