About the Role

The Park & Tree - Neighborhood Parks Superintendent oversees the administration and monitoring of maintenance programs for neighborhood parks, lakes, and athletic fields within the Neighborhood Parks Division, ensuring high standards of upkeep and community satisfaction. Essential Job Functions •Supervises, directs, and evaluates staff performance; addresses staff concerns, provides guidance, and administers disciplinary actions as needed. Conducts daily meetings with personnel to assign tasks, resolve workplace issues, and organize work crews for optimal efficiency. •Oversees the ASB Task Tracker software system. Monitors and tracks employees to ensure all work is documented daily via the ASB Task Tracker Kiosk, making adjustments as necessary for accuracy and efficiency. •Leads the recruitment, hiring, and training of staff, providing clear direction and supervision to ensure all neighborhood parks, lakes, and athletic field properties are operated and maintained in optimal condition. •Oversees the scheduling and deployment of personnel and equipment to meet operational goals. Regularly inspects parks and related areas to assess compliance with management standards and implement improvements to maintenance programs. •Maintains comprehensive and accurate records of all Neighborhood Parks Division activities, including labor schedules, maintenance of parks, athletic fields, and lakes, construction projects, equipment repairs, safety initiatives, fertilizer and chemical applications, and pest control operations. •Directs the installation, maintenance, repair, and scheduling of irrigation systems across all parks and athletic fields to ensure efficient, reliable operation. •Assist in planning and implementing cultural practices for parks and athletic fields, including aeration, vertical mowing, topdressing, and rolling, to promote healthy turf and landscape conditions. •Assist in developing, implementing, and training staff in standard operating procedures (S.O.P.s) for all job functions to ensure consistency and quality in operations. •Assist in creating and implementing comprehensive pesticide and fertilizer plans for landscape beds, plants, turf areas, and athletic fields, ensuring all procedures are followed safely and effectively. •Oversee all contracts within the Neighborhood Parks Division, evaluating, verifying, and approving contractor invoices to ensure compliance and quality of service. •Review service requests and coordinate with residents and City personnel to schedule work; inspect worksites and document service requests electronically. •Assist in planning and implementing projects for neighborhood parks, lakes, and athletic fields, ensuring quality control and the successful and timely completion of all initiatives. •Monitor work crew activities to enforce safety guidelines and department policies, provide ongoing personnel training, and conduct regular equipment inspections. •Assist in managing emergency resource scheduling for the division to ensure preparedness and rapid response during emergencies. •Assist with preparing and reviewing the divisional operating budget. •Respond promptly to telephone calls and emails from citizens, ensuring effective communication and customer service. •Complete employee performance appraisals and participate in recruiting, appointing, and training staff to build a capable and effective team. •Serve as the primary point of contact in the Division Director's absence to maintain continuity of operations. •Serve as an active member of the City’s critical response team, contributing to coordinated emergency efforts. •Process, review, approve, and expedite vendor invoices via agency purchase orders and payment vouchers. •Perform additional related duties assigned to support the division’s objectives. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and calibrations, including converting and understanding fractions, decimals, and percentages. - Knowledge of irrigation systems and pump stations, including troubleshooting, repair, and scheduling. - Knowledge of lawn and athletic field maintenance programs, as well as equipment operation. - Knowledge of ride-on sprayers and fertilizer application equipment. - Familiarity with the City’s emergency response plan as it applies to the assigned area. - Knowledge of turfgrass pests, diseases, and weed identification. - Knowledge of pesticides and fertilizers, including application rates for turfgrass weeds, insects, and diseases. - Knowledge of sports field cultural practices and best management practices. - Familiarity with City personnel policies. - Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work efficiently. - Skill in operating computers, standard office equipment, iPhones, iPads, and other job-related tools. - Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. - Strong public and interpersonal relations skills. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in Golf Course, Grounds, Landscape, or Sports Field Management, supplemented by at least three years of supervisory experience in grounds maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, as well as a Georgia commercial pesticide applicator license—or obtain the license with ornamental, turf, and aquatic endorsements within 12 months of employment. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:15 am - 2:45 pm
