Position: Assistant Coach of Golf (Men & Women) OverviewAssistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach Charleston Southern UniversityLocation: NORTH CHARLESTON, SC 29406SummaryReporting to the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach the Assistant Golf Coach will be a contract employee. The Assistant Coach will uphold and assist the Head Coach, his vision, and the mission of Charleston Southern University’s Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf programs. The Assistant Coach will understand and embrace the academic and Christian mission of Charleston Southern University, including the role that Athletics serves to support that mission.ResponsibilitiesProgram Assistance: Collaborate with Athletic and Administrative staff to advance the goals/mission/core values of the University and departmentProvide Christ-like mentorship of student athletes in accordance with the mission and values of the UniversityEnable the achievement of a quality, competitive sports program and support the educational goals of individual student athletes by demonstrating a coaching philosophy which encourages those goals and promotes an environment conducive to bothFollow the standards set forth by the Head Coach as it relates to a positive image in the areas of personal behavior, conduct, and appearance on and off the University campus, participating in community and professional organizations, representing the University at professional meetings and on community committeesUnderstanding of NCAA, Big South Conference, and CSU rules and regulations governing member institutionsDisciple and assist with character development of student athletesCoaching: Training and Game PlanningAssist in skill instruction, player development, coaching practices of student athletes concerning tactical and technical strategiesAbility to effectively scout and game plan for tournamentsOrganizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coachAssists the head coach with supervising student-athletes during practice and competitionRecruitingContribute in all recruiting efforts of program and identifying potential student athletes to fill needs in order to enhance the programConduct unofficial and official visits following approval from the CSU Compliance DepartmentRemain current and proactive in NCAA and conference legislation on recruiting practices and guidelinesProgram OperationsProtect the integrity of the sport coached and the reputation of the intercollegiate athletics program of the University by ensuring that recruiting activities, student-athlete eligibility determination, scholarships and financial aid programs, scheduled practice sessions, and related activities governed by the NCAA are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations as well as applicable conference rules and University policies.Oversee on campus housing efforts of student athletes in liaison with CSU Compliance DepartmentAssist head coach with other administrative duties as assignedPerform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.Essential Job FunctionsRegular, on-time attendanceAbility to lift and carry up to 25 lbAvailable to work nights and weekendsMay be required to work in inclement weatherAttend mandatory coaches and departmental meetingsReasonable accommodation information provided if neededQualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s DegreeExperience: Coaching relevant sport at the high school, collegiate, and/or professional level; experience competing in relevant sport at the collegiate or professional levelExcellent written and verbal communication skillsComputer literate with a working knowledge of Windows and MS OfficeAbility to quickly learn and work with new computer software systemsAbility to work effectively independently and as part of a team
