Job SummaryThe Parks Department is filling two vacancies for Technician I, Parks (Golf). The successful candidates will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in golf course maintenance, including facility repairs, turf, shrub and plant care, irrigation system installation and repair, concrete work, and equipment maintenance. The role involves varied responsibilities day to day. Typical experience: Relevant experience in parks, cemetery landscapes, horticulture, or farming environments. Experience in golf courses, landscaping, or irrigation is helpful. Work hours are typically weekdays from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM with some seasonal adjustments and weekend rotation. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following illustrative duties are representative of primary functions and are not all-inclusive. Perform maintenance practices for municipal parks, golf courses, and cemeteries.Clean and repair grounds, golf courses, restrooms, facilities, playgrounds, shelters, etc.Maintain landscape areas, water features, and perform repairs where needed.Prepare and renovate golf courses, playing fields, and courts for recreational use.Perform snow removal duties where applicable.Safely operate and maintain medium to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.Install, maintain, and repair irrigation and pumping systems.Provide direction and supervision to hourly and contractual staff.Coordinate activities with volunteer groups and community partnerships.Adhere to safety rules and regulations.Manage a flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays, and participate in on-call rotation if applicable.Apply Integrated Pest Management approaches and apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers as appropriate.Assist with special events, rentals, and special projects as required.Perform technical horticulture, designing, installing, and maintaining flowers, containers, and planting beds with trees, shrubs, and perennials.QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of turf management and horticulture.Ability to operate, maintain, and repair a wide range of equipment and power tools.Ability to perform carpentry, plumbing, welding, concrete, and electrical work.Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain safety guidelines.Basic math and strong written and verbal communication skills.Possibility to obtain certifications as part of the role.Experience with garden design and plant maintenance; irrigation system maintenance.Proficiency with computers and standard office software.Required Qualifications Minimum: High School Diploma or GED. Preferred: High School Diploma or GED (same standard as required). Experience: Two years related experience in parks, golf course maintenance, cemetery landscape, horticulture, or farming.
