Assistant Superintendent

Position: Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Location: Ocala, Florida Position Type: Full-Time / Exempt About Our Facility Located in the heart of Central Florida’s beautiful horse country, our premier golf facility is dedicated to providing championship-level playing conditions and an exceptional member experience. Position Overview The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent / Director of Agronomy. In this role, you will be a key leader in planning, coordinating, and executing daily golf course maintenance operations. You will play a vital, hands-on role in overseeing the agronomic health of our greens, tees, fairways, and roughs while leading and mentoring a dedicated maintenance crew. Key Responsibilities - Agronomic Execution: Assist in planning and implementing advanced turf care programs, including calibrated fertilizer, soil conditioner, and pesticide applications. - Daily Operations: Supervise, train, and motivate the grounds crew to ensure daily course setup, mowing, and hazard maintenance meet peak aesthetic and playing standards. - Water Management: Monitor and maintain complex irrigation systems, including scheduling, troubleshooting, and managing drainage and moisture levels. - Pest & Disease Control: Routinely scout the course for weeds, pests, and disease, prescribing and managing corrective actions safely and effectively. - Record Keeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate logs for chemical applications, weather data, inventory, and safety compliance according to OSHA and local environmental regulations. Qualifications & Requirements - Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Plant/Soil Science, or a closely related field is highly preferred. - Experience: Minimum of 2 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, ideally with supervisory or spray technician experience. - Agronomy Background: Strong foundational knowledge of warm-season turfgrass agronomics, soil chemistry, plant nutrition, and disease identification. - Licensing: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Florida Pesticide Applicator’s License within 90 days of employment is required. - Skills: Excellent communication, a collaborative attitude, basic computer proficiency, and an understanding of how maintenance practices directly impact course playability and player experience. - Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required by the golf calendar.
