About the Role
Assistant Superintendent
Weymouth Country Club – Medina, Ohio
Weymouth Country Club is seeking a motivated Assistant Superintendent to join our agronomy team. This position is ideal for a turfgrass student, Assistant-in-Training (AIT), or Second Assistant Superintendent looking to take on greater responsibility and continue developing the skills needed to advance in the golf course industry.
The Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent in a collaborative partnership focused on developing the next generation of turf leaders. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in agronomic decision making, spray program execution, staff leadership, and the daily management of golf course operations.
This role is structured as a development opportunity where the Assistant Superintendent will be involved in decision making, agronomic planning, and operational strategy rather than simply executing daily tasks.
About Weymouth Country Club
Weymouth Country Club is a private club located in Medina, Ohio featuring an 18-hole championship golf course originally designed by Geoffrey Cornish. The club has hosted numerous high-level competitions including LPGA events, U.S. Open qualifiers, and Ohio Open championships.
The club is part of the Arcis Golf portfolio, one of the largest owners and operators of golf and country clubs in the United States. This affiliation provides access to professional resources, continuing education opportunities, and a strong network of industry professionals.
Why Weymouth is a Strong Development Opportunity
Weymouth Country Club provides an environment where developing turf professionals can gain real experience and responsibility while learning the agronomic principles required to succeed as a Golf Course Superintendent.
The goal of this position is to prepare the Assistant Superintendent for future leadership roles in the industry. The Assistant will be included in discussions regarding agronomic strategy, course conditioning, and operational planning in order to build confidence and experience in decision making.
The department takes pride in producing excellent playing conditions while maintaining a culture built around professionalism, teamwork, and sustainable workloads. While the club strives for high-quality conditions, the focus is on consistent agronomy and efficient operations rather than maintaining peak tournament conditioning throughout the entire season.
Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent in managing the daily operations of the golf course maintenance department. This role includes meaningful responsibility in staff supervision, spray applications, agronomic program implementation, and course conditioning.
A strong emphasis will be placed on spray applications and understanding how agronomic programs are developed and executed throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with the daily planning and execution of golf course maintenance operations
• Perform and oversee spray applications for fertilizers, plant protectants, and pesticides
• Assist in implementing agronomic programs including fertility, plant growth regulator, and pest management programs
• Help supervise and train maintenance staff in safe and efficient work practices
• Monitor course conditions and assist with diagnosing turf health issues
• Assist with irrigation system monitoring, adjustments, and troubleshooting
• Participate in course improvement projects and detail-oriented conditioning work
Agronomic Experience
The Assistant Superintendent will be actively involved in implementing and refining the club’s agronomic programs. The position provides hands-on experience with the practices and strategies used at high-performing golf facilities.
Areas of involvement include:
• Spray applications including fungicides, plant growth regulators, wetting agents, and fertilizer programs
• Understanding fungicide rotation strategies and FRAC group management for season-long turf health
• Developing and executing plant growth regulator programs with a focus on timing and maintaining consistent playing conditions while minimizing turf stress
• Implementing wetting agent programs including product selection, timing, and soil moisture management
• Cultivation practices including aerification, venting, and topdressing designed to maintain firm and healthy playing surfaces
• Monitoring turf performance and adjusting agronomic inputs based on weather patterns and growth potential
The Assistant Superintendent will also gain experience operating and managing modern turf equipment including greens mowers, fairway units, sprayers, and aerification equipment while participating in the planning and execution of agronomic strategies throughout the season.
Professional Development
This position provides direct mentorship from the Golf Course Superintendent in a working environment built around partnership, collaboration, and professional growth.
Additional opportunities include:
• Tournament volunteer opportunities at regional and national events
• Networking opportunities with leading superintendents throughout Northeast Ohio
