About the Role
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Superintendent - Spray Technician to join our team. In this role, the Assistant Superintendent/Spray Technician will be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance and will assist in fertilizer and plant protectant applications as needed. The incumbent will work closely with the Superintendent and other Assistant Superintendents to provide quality golf conditions for members and guests.
Position Responsibilities:
Assists in team scheduling, coaching, and motivation.
Assists with inspections of turf, shrubs, lakes, and other outdoor areas to determine health and conditions/needs.
Applies plant protectants and fertilizers as needed when appropriate to maintain the excellent condition of golf course and grounds.
Assists in maintaining proper inventory of plant protectant and fertilizer products.
Assists in keeping plant protectant and fertilizer storage facilities in a clean and orderly manner; ensures the facility is locked when not present.
Maintains direct communication with golf professionals, the Superintendent, and the Assistant Superintendents.
Attends classes and training seminars to maintain current licenses and to remain abreast of ever-changing industry standards.
Implements and follows the principles outlined in the Florida BMP.
Must be able to obtain RUP and fertilizer applicator license within 90 days of hire.
Must obtain a Florida BMP certificate within 6 months from the day of hire.
Ability to read and converse in English for communication with managers and to effectively communicate safety and environmental standards/requirements.
Must have a valid driver’s license for golf cart, golf equipment, and vehicle operation.
Physical Responsibilities:
· Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
· Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
· Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.
· Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
· Frequent repetitive motion.
· Continuous standing and walking.
· When appropriate, uses protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots, and a hat.
Other Job Functions:
Performs other position-related responsibilities as requested by the Superintendent and the Property & Facilities Director.
Qualifications & Skills:
High School Diploma or GED
3-5 years of IPM/Spray Technician experience.
Demonstrated experience in supervisory experience.
Complete knowledge of chemical applications equipment.
Knowledge of safe mechanical operation and calibration of the following types of equipment.
· Knowledge of:
o Mechanically pressurized spray equipment,
o Hand-operated spray equipment,
o Hand-operated rotary spreaders,
o Hand-operated drop spreaders, and
Utility tractors.
Knowledge of and the ability to perform the required role during emergency situations.
Must have a valid driver’s license for golf cart, golf equipment, and vehicle operation.
