Spray Technician – Golf Course Maintenance

Position Summary
The Spray Technician is responsible for the safe and effective application of fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, growth regulators, and other turf care products on golf course properties. This position plays a critical role in maintaining healthy, high-quality playing conditions while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Apply fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, wetting agents, and other turf management products according to label directions and Superintendent instructions.
Calibrate, operate, and maintain spray equipment, spreaders, and application machinery.
Mix chemicals and fertilizers accurately and safely.
Monitor turf conditions and identify weeds, insects, diseases, and other turf health issues.
Maintain accurate records of all chemical and fertilizer applications, including rates, locations, weather conditions, and inventory usage.
Assist with inventory management of chemicals, fertilizers, and application supplies.
Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and containers in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of spray equipment and related tools.
Assist with irrigation troubleshooting as needed.
Support other golf course maintenance activities when application duties are completed, including mowing, trimming, bunker maintenance, debris removal, and general grounds upkeep.
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
Attend safety meetings and training sessions as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous golf course, landscape, agricultural, or turf management experience preferred.
Knowledge of turfgrass maintenance practices and chemical applications preferred.
Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and safety data sheets (SDS).
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Florida Restricted Use Pesticide License or ability to obtain within a specified period of employment (if applicable).
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and cold temperatures.
Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and vehicles.
Work Schedule
Typical schedule is early morning hours and may include weekends and holidays as required to meet golf course maintenance needs.
Overtime may be required during peak growing seasons or special projects.
Working Conditions
Primarily outdoors in a golf course environment.
Exposure to chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed.
Reports To
Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Spray Manager as assigned.
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
