Overview

The Gateway PGA (“Section”) is one of 41 sections of the PGA of America serving over 400 PGA Professionals and Associates across Central and Eastern Missouri to Central and Southern Illinois. The PGA REACH Gateway Foundation (“Foundation”) is the philanthropic arm of the Section with a mission of Improving Lives through the Community of Golf across three core pillars: Youth, Military and Inclusion.

LOCATION: St. Louis, MO (In-office with regional event travel)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Junior Tour Coordinator plays a vital operational role in bringing competitive golf opportunities to life for youth across the Section through the Gateway PGA Junior Tour. Working under the strategic direction of the Director of Competitions, the Coordinator is responsible for the on-site execution, administration, and team leadership needed to run a professional-caliber junior tour.

This role serves as the frontline operational leader for junior events and directly manages a team of seasonal interns during the peak summer season and offers a clear pathway for professional growth within golf administration, tournament operations, and sports management.

Experience RequiredPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Comprehensive knowledge of golf and competitive tournament structures. Strong familiarity with knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf.Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree preferred. PGA Member of PGA Associate in good standing is a plus but not required.Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with tournament management software (e.g. Golf Genius) is a strong plus.Soft Skills: Exceptional organizational, public speaking, written communication, and conflict resolution skills.Travel & Schedule Availability: Ability to travel extensively throughout the Section territory. Ability to work non-traditional hours, including mandatory weekend events during the spring and fall shoulder seasons and extended hours during the peak 2.5-summer window. Essential ResponsibilitiesPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO)

Tournament Operations

Execute the Gateway PGA Junior Tour tournament schedule across regional facilities under the guidance of the Director of Competitions.Handle event setup, registration, scorecards, scoreboards, and post-event results processing.Implement and enforce the USGA Rules of Golf, local rules, conditions of play, and course markings in coordination with host professionals and rules officials.Perform post-tournament administrative duties, including thank-you letters, score postings to junior ranking services and website updates.Collaborate with Section staff on joint initiatives, including Drive, Chip & Putt, PGA Jr.

League, and scholarship programs.

Team Leadership & Staff Management

Serve as the primary supervisor for a team of seasonal summer interns.Lead on-site event staff and volunteers, fostering a supportive, high-energy, and professional working environment.Employ leadership and conflict-resolution skills while guiding seasonal staff through event delivery.

Stakeholder Relations & Communications

Maintain positive, professional relationships with junior golfers, parents, host facility staff, and PGA ProfessionalsAct as a direct point of contact on-site, resolving conflicts or inquiries with autonomy and sound judgement.Assist the communications team with event summaries, press releases, and media announcements.Support sponsor fulfillment, partner appreciation, and regional Foundation initiatives.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Responsible for helping to create, maintain, and function within assigned budgets

WORKING/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

A significant portion of time will be spent moving about the Section participating in various kinds of events and at various settings. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills will be used. Strong speaking, reading and writing skills will be needed for effective communication throughout the different functions.A significant amount of the time is spent interpreting and analyzing business records, statistical reports and financial reports. Mathematical skills are needed and include basic math, problem solving, reasoning, negotiating, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, variances and percentages.This person will occasionally assist in carrying heavy items requiring lifting of up to 50 pounds. He or she will also spend some time moving about golf courses overseeing various events.
