Elkins Lake Recreational Corporation is a financially secure, community governed club that offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities to our membership. There are 27 holes of golf, dining and catering outlets, 3 lakes, 2 swimming pools, lighted tennis courts, 2 quarter mile walking trails, outdoor exercise stations, playgrounds, ball fields, lighted basketball practice area, picnic areas and several parks. Every property owner in Elkins Lake is a member of the club and the membership is very active with both Elkins Lake sponsored activities and member sponsored clubs and activities. The Club is 30 minutes North of the Conroe area and a straight shot from Interstate 45.

Definition
The golf course superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course.
General responsibilities
He or she is responsible for:
Supervising the maintenance of the golf course(s) Supervising the maintenance and repair of maintenance equipment Rendering professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the general manager, board of directors, and / or golf committee. Actively manages any capital improvement project in relation to the golf course(s), whether contracted out or done in house. Job Summary (Essential Functions)

In addition, the golf course superintendent assumes the following responsibilities:
Construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors. The superintendent must submit written plans for course construction, reconstruction, or renovation projects to the golf committee. Projects approved by the golf committee will be forwarded to the board of directors for final approval. Submit the annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of course properties to the general manager. The superintendent provides feedback for budgetary strategy, upcoming capital improvement requests, and overall depreciation of existing assets. Displaying knowledge in foreseeing problems with irrigation, pumps, motors, and controls, drainage issues, and overall maintenance of the entire golf course(s) facilities is a key component to this position. Must be knowledgeable of identifying problem areas on the golf course whether it be disease, fungus, shade/tree issues, insects, etc. and have the knowledge to correct the issue from an agronomic practice standpoint. Interviews, hires, trains, directs, and supervises staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the properties. The superintendent has authority to terminate employment of subordinates. Plans all maintenance and project work, applying his or her agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals. Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work. The superintendent frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs. Following established purchasing policies, acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and other properties. The superintendent is responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment maintenance programs. The superintendent approves all expenditure and exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets. A well thought out chemical program will be implemented in early order purchase programs to obtain best possible pricing and reasonable inventories of chemical applications. Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc. Communicates regularly with other members of the top management group to discuss activities, goals, plans and member input. The superintendent attends all golf committee meetings, MGA meetings, and meetings of the senior staff. Assists the general manager in developing and implementing long-range (strategic) and annual (operating) plans, operating reports, forecasts, and budgets. Implements an overall safety program that conforms to OSHA standards for the golf course maintenance department. Adheres to all federal, state, and local laws regarding health, safety, and employment. Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the general manager. Employment standards:
Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf. Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making. Requires excellent oral and written communications skills. Requires knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws, and regulations). Requires participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows. May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator. Reports to:
