The Club at Cheval, a Heritage Golf Group property in Lutz, Florida, is seeking a dependable and motivated Assistant Equipment Mechanic to join our Golf Course Maintenance team. The Assistant Equipment Mechanic will work closely with the Equipment Manager/Mechanic and Golf Course Superintendent to help maintain, service, and repair the equipment used to provide outstanding playing conditions at Cheval. POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Equipment Mechanic assists with the repair, preventive maintenance, servicing, and daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment. The position will work under the direction of the Equipment Manager/Mechanic and Golf Course Superintendent to help ensure equipment is safe, reliable, properly adjusted, and ready for daily operation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist with preventive maintenance and repair of golf course maintenance equipment. • Lubricate, service, inspect, and maintain equipment according to established maintenance schedules. • Assist in diagnosing mechanical problems and making necessary repairs and adjustments. • Help inspect equipment for operating deficiencies and safety concerns. • Assist with setup and adjustment of mowing equipment to maintain proper quality of cut. • Help maintain and sharpen blades, reels, and other cutting components. • Assist with troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic and electrical systems. • Perform basic small-engine and equipment repairs. • Assist with fabrication, welding, and other equipment repairs based on experience and ability. • Maintain accurate equipment service and repair records. • Help maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used maintenance and repair parts. • Communicate equipment problems, repair needs, and safety concerns to the Equipment Manager/Mechanic and Golf Course Superintendent. • Follow established safety procedures when operating, servicing, and repairing equipment. • Maintain the mechanic shop, tools, parts, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition. • Assist with other golf course maintenance responsibilities as needed. QUALIFICATIONS • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Mechanical experience or training in automotive, diesel, small-engine, agricultural, landscape, turf, or similar equipment maintenance preferred. • Vocational or technical training in mechanics, small-engine repair, diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field is preferred but not required. • Golf course equipment experience is a plus, but we are willing to consider candidates with strong mechanical skills from other industries. • Basic knowledge of engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and preventive maintenance preferred. • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus. • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining equipment in safe operating condition. • Dependable, organized, and able to work effectively as part of a team. • Willingness to learn specialized golf course equipment maintenance and reel mower setup. • Valid driver’s license required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires the ability to work in a golf course maintenance and mechanic shop environment, including exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical equipment, noise, fumes, oils, fuels, and other materials commonly associated with equipment maintenance. The position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, pulling, and repetitive movement. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be used as required.
