About the Role
• *Key Responsibilities and Duties**
Grounds crew members perform a variety of turf maintenance and course preparation tasks, including but not limited to:
• Mowing: Using specialized reel mowers, triplex mowers, or riding mowers to cut greens, tees, fairways, aprons, and rough areas to precise heights for optimal playability and aesthetics.
• Weed eating / String trimming: Edging and trimming around trees, bunkers, cart paths, tee markers, irrigation heads, and other obstacles to maintain clean lines and prevent overgrowth.
• Bunker raking and maintenance: Raking sand bunkers (hand or mechanical) to ensure smooth, consistent surfaces; edging lips; removing debris/weeds; and checking sand depth.
• Irrigation system work: Identifying and digging up leaks in sprinkler lines/heads, repairing or replacing components, adjusting heads, hand-watering dry spots as needed, and assisting with overall system maintenance to support healthy turf.
• Course setup and daily grooming: Changing pin positions (cupping greens), moving tee markers, repairing ball marks/divots, blowing clippings/debris off greens and paths, filling ball washers/water stations, and picking up litter.
• Other turf care tasks: Aeration, seeding/overseeding, topdressing, fertilizing applications (under supervision), verticutting, edging, weed control, and general landscaping/trimming.
• Equipment operation and basic care: Safely operating golf carts, utility vehicles, blowers, trimmers, chainsaws (if needed), and other tools; performing routine cleaning, fueling, and minor maintenance on equipment.
• Additional support: Assisting with special projects (e.g., drainage work, tree/landscape improvements), event setup, or any manual labor directed by the superintendent or foreman to maintain the course’s high standards.
• *Requirements and Skills**
• Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work: lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, standing/walking for extended periods, and working in heat, cold, rain, or early mornings.
• Reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic—weekends, holidays, and early starts (e.g., 5-6 AM) are common during the season.
• Willingness to learn on the job; prior experience in landscaping, mowing, golf course maintenance, or similar preferred but often trained.
• Valid driver’s license (for operating carts/vehicles).
• Attention to detail for high-quality results on a premier course.
• Team-oriented attitude and ability to follow safety protocols.
• Age minimum often 16+ for entry-level grounds crew roles.
