Westborough Country Club is seeking an experienced, Controller to join our leadership team. Reporting directly to the COO, the Controller serves as the Club's administrative manager overseeing all accounting, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and risk management functions.

Position SummaryThe Controller supervises all accounting and financial reporting functions while serving as a trusted advisor to the COO on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic planning. The successful candidate will ensure the integrity of the Club's financial operations, maintain compliance with applicable regulations, and provide timely and accurate financial information to support decision-making.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & ReportingPrepare monthly financial statements, forecasts, and management reports.Compile and coordinate the annual operating and capital budgets with department heads.Analyze operating results, revenues, expenses, and trends to identify opportunities for improved profitability and efficiency.Prepare monthly financial presentations for the COO, Treasurer, and Board of Directors.Monitor capital expenditures and restricted funds.Maintain fixed asset schedules and oversee depreciation accounting.Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly with guidance from a third party accountant.Accounting OperationsOversee all accounting functions and supervise the Accounting Team.Ensure accurate and timely member billing and accounts receivable management.Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, transfers, prepaid expenses, insurance allocations, inventory adjustments, and other general ledger transactions.Review outsourced monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy.Safeguard club assets through effective internal controls and financial procedures.Maintain accounting records and support annual audits.Payroll & Benefits AdministrationOversees a Payroll / HR employee that completes the following:Process and oversee bi-weekly payroll.Manage timekeeping systems and payroll-related issues.Administer employee benefits programs and maintain 401(k) plan records.Maintain employee personnel records and payroll compliance.Compliance & Risk ManagementFile all required tax returns, including sales and use tax, dues tax, tobacco tax, and other regulatory filings.Maintain compliance with all club licenses and regulatory requirements.Review and maintain contracts, leases, and insurance documentation.Coordinate with external auditors and facilitate the annual audit process.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required or an associates degree with substantial private club experience.Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.Private club, hospitality, country club, resort, or nonprofit experience strongly preferred.Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, taxation, and internal controls.Experience with Jonas Club Software or similar club management/accounting systems preferred.Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.What We OfferCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.Comprehensive benefits package.401(k) retirement plan with match.Professional development opportunities.Opportunity to make a meaningful impact at one of St. Louis' premier private clubs.Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter for consideration.
