About the Role
Job Overview
The chemical technician, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent, performs chemical applications on golf course properties, fertilizes tees, greens and fairways, and applies chemicals on the greens. The technician is responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). This position also compiles preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the golf course superintendent.
Prerequisites
Valid driver’s license
Two years or more of course experience
Responsibilities & Duties
Perform chemical applications on golf course properties, fertilize tees, greens and fairways, and apply chemicals on greens
Read, understand, and stay current with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
Compile preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the superintendent
Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment
Maintain golf course greens as directed
Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations and oversee safety of chemical handlers and helpers
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator required within a year of employment
Knowledge of chemical application equipment: mechanically pressurized spray equipment, hand‑operated spray equipment, hand‑operated rotary, hand‑operated drop spreaders, utility tractors
Ability to follow oral and written directions
State requirement to read and write English; record chemicals in the Chemical Application Log
Physical requirements same as Assistant Superintendent
Special Skills & Abilities
Complete knowledge of chemical application equipment
Knowledge in the safe mechanical operation and calibration of the following types of equipment: mechanically pressurized spray equipment, hand‑operated spray equipment, hand‑operated rotary, hand‑operated drop spreaders, utility tractors
Possession of a valid driver’s license
Performs routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment
Maintains golf course greens as directed
Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and helpers
Additional duties as assigned
