About the Role
Farmington Country Club is a premier private club with a century of excellence, a staff of 500+, and a campus spanning golf, racquets, aquatics, and dining. We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to serve a senior technical authority within our IT organization, owning the architecture, performance, and security of the Club's core infrastructure.
This position is designed for an engineer who operates with a high degree of independence, exercises sound architectural judgment, and takes genuine ownership of outcomes. You will partner directly with the Director of IT to establish technical standards, oversee our co-managed MSP relationship, and maintain the infrastructure reliability expected in a premier, member-focused environment. Standard hours are regular business hours; occasional on-call availability is required for critical infrastructure events.
Some Key Responsibilities
Administer and optimize the VMware vSphere / vSAN environment, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and host lifecycle management
Manage HPE server hardware lifecycle: firmware, health monitoring, and replacement planning
Own backup and disaster recovery operations using Veeam, including restore testing and RTO / RPO compliance
Maintain Active Directory and Entra ID infrastructure in a hybrid identity environment
Design and maintain Cisco switching infrastructure across all Club facilities, including new construction projects
Administer Ruckus wireless, including event and seasonal coverage planning
Manage FortiGate firewall configuration, network segmentation, and Zero Trust application control
Support the MDR/EDR platform, vulnerability management program, and conditional access policies
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily on-site at the Club's Charlottesville, VA campus, with occasional work across golf, racquets, aquatics, dining, and event facilities.
Must be available for scheduled and emergency after-hours support, particularly during major Club events and tournaments. Ability to lift and move IT equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in server room, network closet, and mechanical space environments.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of progressive experience in systems and network administration, with demonstrated ownership of VMware vSphere environments.
Hands-on experience with Cisco switch configuration and deployment (VLANs, trunking, spanning tree, QoS).
Experience administering Active Directory and/or Entra ID in a hybrid identity environment.
Working knowledge of firewall administration, network segmentation, and security fundamentals (FortiGate experience strongly preferred).
Experience with enterprise backup platforms (Veeam or equivalent) and disaster recovery practices.
Strong troubleshooting methodology and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues for non-technical stakeholders and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry certifications such as VCP, CCNA/CCNP, Security+, or equivalent.
Familiarity with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and Unity Connection, particularly end-user phone and voicemail provisioning, is a plus.
Experience with PowerShell scripting and/or Power Automate for operational automation.
Prior experience in hospitality, club, resort, or other member/guest-facing environments where uptime directly affects customer experience.
Familiarity with vulnerability management tools, MDR/EDR platforms, and Zero Trust application control frameworks.
Experience supporting technology standards for construction or renovation projects.
