Miakka Golf Club, a premier private facility located in Myakka City, Florida, is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. Working alongside Director of Agronomy Terry Kennelly, the successful candidate will gain hands-on golf course construction and grow-in experience at a world-class facility known for its innovative agronomic practices, significant ownership investment, and commitment to exceptional course conditions. Approximately 1,100 total acresTotal Staff: Currently 25 with potential to be 50+ once fully staffedTypical Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; minimally every other weekend offTurf Types: Stadium Zoysia on tees and fairways, Lazer Zoysia on greens and approaches, experimental Zoysia varieties, Centipede, and Bahia in natural areasIrrigation System: Toro 2-wire systemEquipment: John Deere/Toro (majority leased)Future Projects:Continued grow-in and refinement of course conditions with opportunities for innovation and experimentation.Construction of the Par 3 course

Initial Priorities Of The Position
Become familiar with course operations, goals, and agronomic standardsDevelop relationships with the management team and maintenance staffAssist in day-to-day course maintenance and agronomic practicesContribute to the refinement of existing maintenance programs and scheduling
Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, And Aptitude
Assist the Superintendent with all aspects of agronomic management, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, topdressing, and pesticide applicationsSupervise, train, and motivate the maintenance staff in proper techniques, safety procedures, and quality standardsMonitor turf health, moisture levels, and overall course conditions to ensure championship-level playabilityTroubleshoot and maintain irrigation systems, including scheduling and repair oversightMaintain accurate records for chemical and fertilizer applications in compliance with regulationsOversee daily crew assignments, ensuring efficient use of labor and resourcesSupport budget preparation, inventory management, and equipment planningServe as a key member of the leadership team and act as Superintendent in their absence
Preferred Qualifications
Certificate or associate degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (required)5+ years of relevant golf course maintenance experienceStrong understanding of warm-season turf managementFlorida pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated leadership experience and a desire for career advancement
Compensation & Benefits
