ASSISTANT GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
JOB SUMMARY:
Under direction, supervises the operation and maintenance of a golf course and its facilities; does other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
May supervise the maintenance, repair, construction, cleaning, and operation of the golf course and its facilities.May supervise the collection of fees and their remittance to proper officials.May supervise the operation of a luncheonette.Organizes and conducts tournaments.Carries out established policies, procedures, and rules of the golf course and its facilities.Prepares and maintains essential records and files.May prepare annual budget proposals and administer an approved budget.Provides for safety of the public through visitor protection practices.Participates in the recruitment, selection, supervision, and training of golf course personnel.May recommend selection of specified equipment for the maintenance and operation of the golf course.Maintains the inventory of supplies and equipment.Gives assignments and instructions to employees.May prepare and carry out of a safety program for personnel.Prepares requisitions, and receives, issues, and accounts for materials and supplies.Participates in the preparation of plans and specifications for construction improvement to the golf course.May administer the golf course in a manner that reflects sound budgetary practice, agency policy, and efficient use of assigned personnel.Ensures proper use and care of equipment, materials, and supplies.Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.Typical Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in the management of a 18-hole golf course.
NOTE: An Associate's degree in Turf Management, Turf Science, or Agronomy may be substituted for the two (2) years of experience indicated above.
NOTE: Satisfactory completion of a one (1) year program in turf management, turf science, or agronomy from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of rules, regulations, practices, and procedures in golf play.Knowledge of the maintenance, repair, construction, and cleaning of a golf course and its facilities.Knowledge of procedures to be used in assigning employees various tasks.Knowledge of methods and procedures used in purchasing, allocating, maintaining, and safeguarding golf course equipment, materials, and supplies.Knowledge of methods and procedures used in establishing personnel, financial, equipment, and other records.Knowledge of organizing and conducting golf tournaments.Ability to utilize advantageously available personnel, funds, and equipment in the operation, maintenance, construction, repair, and cleaning of a golf course and its facilities.Ability to give assignments to individuals and groups of employees, provide them with advice and assistance when difficult and unusual problems arise, and to check their work to ensure compliance with proper procedures.Ability to deal effectively with persons using the golf course.Ability to repair and sell golf equipment.Ability to organize and conduct tournaments.Ability to prepare reports.Ability to maintain records and files.Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
