About the Role
Our client, a premier golf resort located in the heart of **Phoenix, Arizona, US**, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the meticulous maintenance and conditioning of our championship golf courses. This role requires a deep understanding of turfgrass management, agronomy, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. You will lead a team of dedicated groundskeepers, ensuring that our courses consistently meet the highest standards of playability and aesthetic appeal for our esteemed members and guests.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive agronomic plans for all golf course areas, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs. Supervise, train, and mentor a groundskeeping crew, fostering a safe and productive work environment. Oversee irrigation systems, including scheduling, maintenance, and water conservation strategies. Manage pest and disease control programs, utilizing integrated pest management (IPM) techniques and adhering to environmental regulations. Monitor soil conditions, nutrient levels, and turf health, implementing appropriate fertilization and soil amendment programs. Operate and maintain all golf course maintenance equipment efficiently and safely. Develop and manage the annual golf course maintenance budget, controlling expenses and seeking cost-effective solutions. Liaise with golf professionals, management, and club committees to ensure course conditions align with playing expectations. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, chemical applications, and equipment repairs. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations and licensing requirements. Contribute to the long-term strategic planning and capital improvement projects for the golf courses.
Qualifications:
Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Class A Superintendent certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is highly preferred. Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil science, pest and disease management, and irrigation systems. Proficiency in budget management and personnel supervision. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as dictated by operational needs. Knowledge of golf course operations and the demands of tournament play. Valid driver's license.
