About the Role
Purpose of the Role At the City of Pharr, well-kept public spaces support community pride and safe recreation. The Golf Course Landscaping Superintendent leads golf course landscape maintenance and ongoing course improvements so playing areas remain healthy, safe, and consistently presentation-ready.
Key responsibilities include supervising and coordinating landscape staff; planning workloads and assigning crews; performing routine course inspections to evaluate conditions and recommend enhancements; and overseeing the cultivation, trimming, care, and treatment of trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns.
Knowledge of landscaping equipment and tools, including use, repair, and preventive maintenance Working knowledge of chemicals (interactions, hazard indicators, application/production techniques, and proper disposal) Skill in routine equipment upkeep, diagnosing operating errors, and selecting corrective action Ability to repair machines/systems using appropriate tools

How Your Days Flow You’ll start early onsite in Pharr, walking key areas to get a clear read on turf, plantings, and overall presentation before play ramps up. After a quick check-in with the team, you’ll move between holes and landscape zones, noting what needs attention now versus what can be scheduled for later in the week. Midday often includes documenting observations, adjusting sequencing as conditions change, and confirming equipment is ready for the next shift of work. The typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 5:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m., with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays when course needs require it.

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma and vocational training in golf course and landscape maintenance.
Three (3) years of supervisory experience in golf course and landscaping maintenance, as well as basic irrigation principles. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Possession of a valid, appropriate Texas (Class C) driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
